As long as I'e been a BMW owner, I never heard of this site until months after owning the X...imagine all those BMW owners who aren't members of ANY forums, so they're even more likely to not even know about this site as a place to discuss their experiences.
As for the SRT8, this is the 2nd version of it, so I'm sure there are far more owners with experiences. The X5M being the 1st year out vs the SRT8 just being a larger displacement version means that they've probably worked out all the kinks already. Naturally I prefer BMW's, but I'm not going to discount and slander other makes and models of vehicles that are just as fast or faster just because they're not a BMW...I appreciate them all as owning each one has it's own trade-offs. I make a decent living off the simple fact that BMW's aren't the most reliable. |

I was just stating that Jeep Cherokee reliability is garbage as well. I wouldn't buy either of them if reliability was one of my major concerns. Looks pretty sharp. I've always liked the Grand Cherokees. I bought a V8 Limited in 2000. Sadly it was the biggest POS I ever owned. Ate up rear bearings every 5k miles.

I've had a 2006 SRT8 since '06 (first year) and its been trouble free. In fact I've never needed to service it aside from personally doing fluid swaps (oil, trans, front & rear diff and the transfer case fluid) every 5-10k miles (for peace of mind and I do it with all m cars).
I'll say this, people can laugh, hate or slam the Jeep SRT8, but for $39.5k and a $300 ECU flash it will beat just about anything off the line and run a similar quarter mile to my X5M. Yeah the SRT8 interior has lots of plastic and the handling is a little wild (lots of torque-steer), however, it can also pull 1g on the skid-pad and did very well on the One Lap of America back in '06/'07. Oh and parts, engines, etc... are very cheap when compared to BMW parts. Oddly though, when comparing the interior of my '10 Range Rover Supercharged to my X5M, the X5M feels almost as cheap as the SRT8 does when comparing it to the X5M. Interestingly the price gap between the my Range Rover Supercharged ($103k) vs. my X5M ($95k) is a lot closer then the SRT8 ($39.5k) to the X5M or Range Rover Supercharged. Its all about framing and personal preference. Personally I love owning all three, and equally loved owning my 4.8is and 4.6is even though they were much slower and less luxurious. |
Where in the heck did you find a Jeep Srt8 for $39.5k brand new ? I paid close to that price for my 2000 Limited Grand Cherokee
