Ashtray won't stay closed? $2 / 20 minute fix
Writing this to hopefully help others save $400 by switching to Gei... Sorry, that's the commercial.
Essentially the ashtray operates on the same principal as a ball point pen, just turned sideways. There is a metal pin that sticks out on the right side of the lid, and engages a little diamond shape track to hold it closed, and pressing the lid down changes to the other side of the diamond track allowing it to open, where once open it resets to the close track. To take off the lid merely press inward on the pivot points and remove it after removing the ashtray insert. More than likely your pin broke off, with possibly some of the plastic. I found mine still inside the ashtray, and reattached it with superglue (less is more "strong") and then used tiny pieces of paper towel with a dab of superglue to soak them to reinforce the area and prevent a repeat. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...syelee1tw.jpeg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...sowwix7c3.jpeg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...slqccufpo.jpeg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...slzkimzpv.jpeg The only difficulty was on reinstall, I used a Popsicle stick to hold the spring back whilst installing the ashtray lid so it would engage correctly. Easy fix, saved the cost of replacing the whole console piece, and gf was very happy. Win win. Hope this helps someone else. |
Thank you for the write-up!
