School me on rims & offset

Looking for a set of winter rims for the X3 (2008). Which I am having a hard time doing so..

To my understanding what's on the vehicle now is
17x8J
46mm ET
5x120
M14x1.5.

I found a very good deal on a set from a 2012, 535..Looking the wheel specs up;

17x8J
30mm ET
5x120
M14x1.25

The ET throws me off. What does this mean will the tires basically be inside the wheel well too far? Will it even work? The winter tires I am putting on are 235/55/17.

30mm offset compared with 46mm means they will stick out 16mm more. I would think this would be fine as there tends to be loads of clearance on x cars.

The one measurement you are missing is the centre hub diameter, 5 Series were always different to every other BMW, but the F10 from 2010-2016 is the same 72.5mm as the X3 and 'most' other BMWs.

What style wheel is it?

Yah the cb is 72.6 which matches mine. So your saying it will stick out 16mm (1.6cm)? Not be actually pulled in closer to the wheel well.

See attached for the wheel. The tires are shot on it I guess but I got my own set of tires.

Yeah, you will clear the strut by 16mm, but obviously will then be closer to the arch by 16mm too.

I see, well I'm sure that 1.6cm it moving out won't make that much of a difference.

Do the wheels look familiar to you? Their apparently off a 2012 535.. I haven't seen them in person yet

I think there is a car down the road from me with those, it is a Touring in SE spec.

Are they the same width front and rear?

jeepo23 11-19-2016 08:01 AM

Actually these wheels are 7.5 wide he says in his AD.. now is that going to make a difference?

Yes all 4 are apparently the same width. I'll remeasure them myself

No probably better as the 1.6mm you are sticking out has now lost approx the same, so you are back to square one.

thats wicked, cause the price is pretty good for a set of 4-17" rims that I can use for winter especially for a BMW.

Well ended up picking them up for $110 with the tires on them which re 225/50/17 which I could prob sell come spring for some change.

The rims are actually 7.5" wide, ET40. They are not the prettiest looking but they will get me through winter and I'll spray paint them black next spring. After all it is a winter rim.
