Any new updates on this? I am currently looking at an 07 X3 that was purchased in November 06 originally, so I assume I may have issues with the tranny. The X3 has almost 16k miles on it now.

Folks -

I did get the software patch applied in November (at no charge). WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The X3 is now a pleasure to drive! I understand in a few months there may be another update.

I'd make sure that it isn't a trade assist vehicle.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but what exactly is a "trade assist vehicle"? The car was traded into a dealer and they sent it to be sold at auction. Now another dealer has it. Not sure if I will end up with it since I am being extremely agressive with my offer.

Think of it along the lines of a lemon.

Ah, I see. Any way to find out if it is or not? The thing does have almost 16k miles on it.

Carfax doesn't catch stuff unless it's reported to the insurance companies and/or police I think. And sometimes, it even misses that. Best bet is to get the VIN and ask your dealer to run a service history check on it. Everytime that vehicle has been brought in for service, the computer will record it along with what was done. If you see multiple entries (within a short time) for the same problem, run, do not walk, towards the nearest exit.

Good point and sound advice too.
