I got someone lined up to buy my 4.6 without hesitation for the same (if not more) than the asking price of this one. My 4.6, however, has half the miles but no SC but does have sport and not comfort seats....

damn it... sell my 4.6 (maintained very well) and get this or just stick to mine.....

I've been dreaming about it, too, but the better half has been out of work for 3 months so REALLY hard to justify the purchase. Timing is everything...

I honestly would keep it astetically stock due to the rarity of the car. The brakes and performance items can be done but everything else should be kept origional.

Does Dinan still do full S3 kits for the 4.6is? I was planning on getting another Estoril blue 4.6is and having my certified Dinan BMW dealership put it in.

No, the S3 package is not available. Last I checked the only E53 upgrade was the transmission software. It is a great mod and not that expensive.

Seeing the Dinan 4.6is has not retained value like the E39 M cars, I see no value in retaining stock condition. Good low mile examples of the E39 M & Msport are in the 30 to 40k range (I've spent the last 2 yrs shopping for one).

Picking up this Dinan 4.6is for under 10k would leave me with over double the purchase price to play with.

In the late 90s I was involved in ripping into a friends (Tony Darwin) brand new '96 GTS Viper, over 2200hp, full cage, tubbed, Lenco planetary trans.....

That Viper was worth much more then this BMW when we tore it apart to turn it into a track monster!

Pic in my St Pete, FL driveway after completion.

If you're going that route the biggest impact will be fitting the Si-Trim impeller and 4.44 gears.

Do you have the 4.44 gears or know anyone that has to get an idea of the 0-60 improvement or some other measurement other than seat of the pants?

So paint it or wrap it--no biggie. I can give you pointers on keeping a black car looking nice. Have had a black vehicle going back many, many years

x5Alpine 06-01-2015 03:06 PM

true, I just thought that It would be better stock. And the thing about black is the how easily it swirls up and gets dusty.

bcredliner 06-01-2015 06:13 PM

A stock and rare X5 4.6 supercharged only means something to the owner and purists. The higher the mileage the less the rarity means to most. It's not going to appreciate in our lifetime so do whatever puts your pedal to the metal.

Still waiting on detailed pics from seller.

Tony & I enjoyed inviting other Viper Club members to the garage, seeing the expressions of HORROR on their faces when they saw a brand new GTS Viper TOTALLY stripped out on a chassis stand, PRICELESS!!!
