WTH is this vacuum tube?!?!?
 
Have reached wit's end on it. No mention in RealOEM that we can find, nothing in AllData, not one mention in 100+ posts about intake manifold removal.

Never saw it when I pulled the intake up, so a little plastic L connector sheared off in the back where I circled by the firewall, the other hose is slightly larger. I am going to try to replace with something from a HW store, or even aquarium store if I can't find the BMW replacement.

Checked Fuel, Tranny, Transfer, even heating, cooling. You can see the nipple up by the throttle body and MAF in diagrams, but no mention of the hose or what it connects to.

Sorry, I have not gone in depth on the N62 yet (is yours N or M62?) but maybe it goes around down to something having to do with the evap system? I've seen vac hoses like that going down to the fuel filter area on E46's... as well as other evap components on other models.

Hopefully someone with experience on these can chime in.

I agree. My son found the hose it connects with via a 90 degree elbow. I went through RealOEM & AllData again for the fuel evap system and still didn't find it.

I think that since it's vapor or air only, I can use pretty much any material as long as it fits.

It's an M62. Still very strange that it's never mentioned anywhere. I did find a guy out on one of those auto "ask a master" sites. But five guys answered and they either were wrong or just didn't know.

You should be able to replace it with any standard vac hose. I usually just take it to Oreilly's and buy 5ft of whatever size hose I need so I have some in the future as well. The only exception being the molded vacuum hoses... I try to buy those OEM if I can because if one part was brittle... chances are the rest of it is also.

Actually I just today replaced a ~1ft section of vac hose going from intake manifold to fuel pressure regulator on my 87 325 BMW. So having the extra hose lying around helps... but then again I am maintaining 5 bimmers atm so you may not get as much use out of the extras as I do.

edit: btw, did you have mice living in the back of your engine bay at some point? Looks like a nest on your pic.

Not my photo, was taken from mysweetx No idea what that was. Our X5 lived the first 9yrs garaged most of the time in Pasadena, Calif, and the last three garaged in Fountain Hills, AZ, so it is as clean as the day it rolled off of the line.

I didn't need the hose, just the connector. Turns out a 90 degree xeriscape irrigation joint works perfectly. The entire town is xeriscape, so I had loads of them on hand. The main point was "WTH does it connect to?" and the answer was discovered by my son this morning. Then the next thing was "WTH is the part number for that connector?" Still nothing found from BMW, but a $0.07 irrigation part is much higher quality than OEM and it works. So got this out of the way.

Now on to a guibo replacement for my e36 and a passenger seat belt replacement for my e38.

Ah gotcha. Glad you got it sorted.

Have fun dropping the exhaust to do that guibo. It's not too bad really, just ungainly and heavy. You doing the CSB at the same time? Not sure what you current mileage is, but looking at your sig it might be worth doing while you are there. Famous last words I know... ;)
