Oh yeah I just got a set of BSWs from a member that I will be installing during my week off at Easter.:D

SO what are the thoughts over all on the BSW 8" sub? I have a 10" thats always in the way/taking up room even in a slim box...

The BSW W sub is a nice sub. I have one of these units in my E39 540i Touring where it replaces the factory sub.Its out of site and takes up none of my usable cargo room. Quality wise the BSW sub does sound good. Obviously your 10 inch inch is a little bigger but the 8 inch in fine. Keep in mind that this sub is not like
tucked away in a trunk where the sound has to make it through a rear parcel shelf and rear seat. My X5 came with a JL audio sub and its fantastic also.

It depends what you are expecting or used to. Since you have a 10" now... and assuming it has any room to breathe at all... it probably sounds better than the BSW 8". I enjoy the BSW setup but it doesn't hold a candle to the sub setups I have done in the past using 10" or 12" subs. It fills in the mid-range nicely... and hits some of the lows. Down to maybe ~60hz.

In the end I would like to replace it with a 10" sub when I have time to do a custom fiberglass enclosure that fits where the BSW setup does so as to not lose cargo space. I enjoy having the cargo space and haven't come up with a different place to go with it so as to not lose space. I have done some interesting stuff in the past to keep cargo space while still adding a sub... maybe when I have more time I'll try something like that with the X.

Crystalworks makes a good point here that if you are going custom then of course better sound can be achieved. In my E39 M5 I had a custom box built to go in the right hand side of the trunk where the access panel resides. The builder made the box to completely fill fit this cavity like it came from the manufacturer yet I did not loose any trunk space. To make the most of it we went with a 10 inch Hertz sub and the sound quality is just amazing. The sub and enclosure cost more than the bsw retrofit but I wanted the unit to be out of the way and not take up any room. The BSW in this application of vehicle runs a sub box parallel to the rear packaging shelf. Long story short a custom built enclosure with a high quality sub will yield impressive sound performance. Once again it just depends on how much you want to spend and what type of sound quality are you trying to achieve.

I'm a bit older, but still enjoy music with a full sound. factory sub is garbage so I installed a Premier Championship series 10" in a slim box and its sound is nothing short os insanity in an open cabin vehicle. Closed trunk...maybe not, but again I'm not looking to let neighbors know I have a sub.
I HIGHLY enjoy this set-up but out of sight would be incredibly useful too but not worth it to me to spend serious cash to do this as I can make due currently... I was just curious as if I see a BSW sub on ebay then I would have picked it up, but I will just stick with my current set-up. thanks for input guys.

I love that the JL is out of site because I can throw all of the kids soccer gear in back without interference of the speaker/sub. Honestly if I did not have the JL sub I would go for the BSW sub just to fill out the sound. Yes the factory sub is garbage. Last month BSW had a killer clearance price on the E53 sub.

Your paint looks sweet. Thought about powder coating the running boards black?

damn, i wish i knew about th3e BSW e53sub sale. it would have been interesting to buy one. i cant even find them on their website now
