2005 BMW X5 3.0i remote start install diy?
 

Hello guys,I'm new here.My wife has been nagging me to put a remote start in her bmw x5.So I recently purchased a rs1050 unit,ordered a factory key ring antenna.Im planning on making my own bypass.

Is it safe to assume I can use the factory key ring antenna i ordered and a spdt relay as a bypass in this car??Also according to the RS1050 I see wires labeled:

12v= I would assume this is 12v constant at the ignition cylinder?
Starter=I would assume this is for the starter wire also at the ignition cylinder??
Accesory=I would assume this is for accessory position at the ignition cylinder??

I dont have a problem with those I think im correct in my assumptions.

However I do see ignition 2 and accessory 2 listed on the module itself as well.Just wondering if anyone has wired one of these and what I need to use and dont need to use??

I am hoping to tap the yellow/red wire at the center console to lock and unlock the door using factory remote and activate the remote start this way as well.According to the unit it needs to see 2 negative pulses within 5 seconds of each other to start or stop the engine.

Any other issues i might run into??Im not an installer of these systems so Im just looking for some help if any of you have done this.

Ive done a search on this.There seems to be nothing solid on this topic or any DIY.

Theres a reason there is no threads or DIY on remote start - our X5's are sensitive enough electronics I wouldnt be hacking more crap into it with a remote start, and especially not DIY'ing it.

Buy a house with a garage or be a good husband and go start it for her a few mins before she leaves if you want to warm it up.

Sensitive electronics???No more like aging and pain in the ass.Lets not kid ourselves these cars are dinosaurs my x5 is 11 years old.Theres nothing sensitive about it.Still running.I dont see how a remote start could be an issue in these cars when all other cars have them installed without issues.Just doesnt make sense to me to be honest.

I'm sure it's been done. But really haven't seen any DIY. I can see lots going wrong with installation and cause other issues. I'm curious how this pans out really. Make sure you test each wire thoroughly for other functions before you cut into it.

If you did get this going, it's not the best thing for your e53. In fact BMW recommends against and if you read your manual you will see.

Are you familiar at all with the EWS on your wife's car?

I'll be more concern with accidentally splicing into a can bus wire. Wife wants a remote start for her car, buy her a Ford.

aftermarket remote starters are so early 2000's

BMW's, according to the manuals, are not meant to be started and then idled for any longer than a minute.

PLUS I NEVER EVER understood the benefit to it since the engine MAY warm up if you leave it long enough (10-30 mins, depending on outdoor temps) and therefore the cabin will too, but your tranny fluid does NOT and therefore when you drive off, your engine wants to rev faster/easier but the tranny is still sluggish.
PLUS engines warm up wayyyyyy faster, therefore your cabin will too, when you actually push the rpm's (by driving) instead of letting them sit and idle.
this goes for any car.
So just put a coat and gloves on and clear off any ice/snow on windows while inside heats up for a moment. again, that goes for any vehicle.

no offense, but just because the vehicle is older does not make the electronics in it any less finicky. Electronics don't get any less sensitive with age. BMW's are electronic beasts and thats why so many times batteries die as we let the vehicles sit over a few weeks. The systems are very power consuming because there is so many different electronic systems in the vehicles. Its what makes the vehicles BMW create so awesome, yet such a pain in the ass to modify sometimes. So be careful with what wires you play with and what you install in a BMW. This is coming from guys with experience.

Better to install factory options like a heated steering wheel and heated seats than a non factory option like a remote starts
