Premium Sound w/ DSP
Premium high-fidelity 12 speaker sound system with Digital Sound Processing (DSP) and 2 Subwooders.
I've been looking in the past few weeks for a pre-owned 4.4 04' or 05' X5, either private sale or dealer pre-owned and have yet to find one with the Premium Sound w/ DSP. Has anyone ever bought a pre-owned X5 that just happened to be equipped with the Prem Sound? I'm making matters worse cause I want either Titanium Silver or Sterling Gray with black leather. But good things are worth waiting for, I don't like to settle for something I won't be happy with so waiting 6 months till I find the exact one is not a problem for me. But am I dreaming or will the exact combo finally appear for me? |
not sure how much of an audiphile you are, but the premium system ain't the greatest. many folks here have ripped out the sound system and built their own (not me, I can't screw in a screw). depending on what your listening habits are, you're better off searching out other here who have done something that you want. just my opinion :)

yeah music is important in my daily drive, no I can't rip out the existing and replace myself (not a techie) and won't have the funds to pay someone else so I want at least the best stock I can get.

Look for vehicles with navigation. Most of the time those have DSP.
We have it in ours and I think it's spectacular. I should mention that the previous owner changed out the speakers, but what I really like is that the sound stage with DSP is just awesome. You can tell it's processing well because all the sounds are coming from the right speakers to give it a really wholesome feel. The DSP amp actually has an output of 14 seperate channels. |
Thanks, I really don't need the Nav but if I find one w DSP and with the right color combo I wouldn't pass it up, however I don't like the fact that you lose the single Cd slot up front by getting the NAV, although the cd changer will get the most work, still nice to have the single slot up front.

when i purchased my '03 back in Aug. of '04, i was in the same boat. i wasn't to specific about color, but i wanted either a black or silver 4.6is; however, it had to have black leather, NAV and titanium interior trim. a lot of what i found had the wood trim. i didn't settle and because i didn't, i found the one i wanted. hang in there!:2thumbs: |
wow 12 speakers thats alot
i got a used 4.4 black on black with dsp but no navie just keep your eyes open.... |

I love the DSP system and it is perfectly fine for any normal audio use. I have had a ton of cars that claimed they had great systems from Bose to Alpine to everything in between. The Prem system in the X5 is by far the best. The tweeters on the oem system are great, the only item lacking is bass which can be easily addressed with an Infinity subwoofer from Bavauto.com which is plug and play on the X5.
Point being, keep looking till you find one. |

I had a very specific shopping list and had to haul round many dealers until I finally found the car that exactly matched my spec. Thats one of the challanges buying secondhand BMW's, you have to wait for one where the previous owner had the same exact spec as you want! I eventually got mine which had the Prem Sound and I'm very happy with it. Keep with it, you wont be disappointed. |

have some listed on eBay. if an X5 doesn't sell thru eBay, contact the Dealer outside of eBay. that's what i ended up doing. plus, because of my patience, i was able to get a much better price. |

If I had it to do over again, I would by the same car WITHOUT the nav and premium sound because they suck. There are countless threads on this forum with people like me desparately trying to correct the sound quality of the OEM premium sound system. I would have installed a Pioneer system for the same money that has a better amp, aftermarket speakers, nav, bluetooth, CD-changer integration, XM/Sirius integration all without loosing steering wheel volume control. See this thread for background. http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...av-xm-dvd.html |
I bought mine with every option including DSP and no Nav.
Great X that I may be selling for a new one, if you are interested PM me. |

But this is a real gray area. However, we all get to state our opinion. |

it does lack some bass, but as far a clarity and crispness, for OEM, i'd say it's pretty darn schweet. just my opinion though. |
I wanted the exact same color combos as you, and I wanted the Nav & DSP too. It took me over 2 months of waiting ('04 4.4 sport), but I finally found it. Hang in there, it will show up. Just be3 prepared to buy right away because they are hard to find. I think the DSP is just fine for the most part. It is much better than most stock audio systems you'll find IMO. Good luck w/the search...all good things are worth the wait!

But the Mark Levinson option on the LS430 reset the bar as far as factory sound was concerned for me. |
TECH TIP: If you cannot bear the awfulness of BMW Premium factory sound, do not play cassettes recorded from old Bay City Rollers 8-Tracks; makes a world of difference.:)
