p0343 and rough idle and stalling
so... i bought a 2002 4.4, auto , with 170k miles. the only code that comes up is the p0343... i changed the passengers side with an oem cam position sensor i got at the local dealership... code came back, switched the drivers and passengers and code came back again.. i have on oder a new disa valve and a new diaphram for the ccv, and intake gaskets as well.. any idea why the code keeps coming back? i also have an airbag light and brake and abs lights on .

There's no DISA valve on an M62 engine. Did you get the right sensor? if you got one for a 6 cylinder, its probably wont work.
Have you checked the connection is good on the sensor plug? you should be able to find the wiring info from google. Do you have Inpa? it would allow you to check if the timing is correct and what the sensor says. CCV and intake gaskets should not affect this but you may have other issues. |
Just a dumb question I should've started with, have you checked your battery is good?

the sensor is for the 4.4 part number 12147539166, it did look different than the one i pulled off, but the old one wasnt a bmw part. old one looked a bit smaller . no i havent looked at the plug on the car side.... what is inpa? i have a solus pro scan tool and im waiting on the euro plug and the key for bmw models.

INPA is a bmw software for which you can find the cable on ebay/amazon/many places and it will give you specific info on bmw sensors that don't show up in standard OBD scanners. I don't know Solus Pro Scan Tool but since you're going around buying OEM Parts, you should invest the 50 or 60$ to get an INPA cable and a PA Soft/BMW Scanner cable.
The reason I asked about INPA is it will show cam sensor values and vanos timing and angles. |
INPA is like looking at the world from the space station. Solus pro euro is like looking at it through a peep hole. Woefully inadequate in my opinion.

so i checked wiring today, with a test light i got power with key on, and ground ,at the engine side of the plug. same on the drivers side, all wires looked good, no breaks or corrosion.

You need a multimeter to check voltage is in spec.

so my solus pro indicated vanos 1 and 2 are 95% camshaft position bank 1 at 34.2 degrees and bank 2 at 0.1 degrees.. im not gertting the code for out of timing , but would i have to get the camshaft alignment tool and go in and check it or does the imsa tool do that as well digitally?
