Popping and jerking while backing up the driveway :(

Hey fellow Xoutposter's!

The old beauty came up with a new trick this week... I noticed a little pop and bang sound erupting from underneath in the last week while backing into the driveway!? sounds deep in tone and kind of crunchy like a CV..

Any advise on if it's the front driveshaft? I see all sorts of options out there like spacers or " two-piece design " or " extended "... seems like my best option is to a OEM one locally from detroit axle as it comes with the new rubber joint and dust cover as others do not seem to. and is only $184+ tax!

I really don't know tho! At least I got 140k out of the factory one :)

Find out where the problem is before ordering a shaft. The LCI models don't really have front driveshaft issues like the earlier X5's did. We have our own set of issues. :) Some inspection is in order to pinpoint your issue. Though, after 140,000 miles... if the rear shaft has never been serviced (flex disc, CSB) then count yourself lucky it didn't make noise or vibration until now. The front also has a flex disc, but no CSB. The rear has a CV joint that mates to the differential.

You have to see what's broken before you open your checkbook.

Item 8 is a biggy on the E36 and E46.

I hear what you guys are saying... It it still in the low 30s out around here and I do not have a heated garage :( So it can wait for a few weeks..

@Crystalworks - I do consider myself pretty lucky to not have experienced any drive line " noises " until now. It has always been suspension related for me. I was thinking of doing the rear flex'ies and CSB while I am in there.

I wonder if it's just the flexie on the front that it just starting to get all sloppy.. seemed too deep to be one of the front CV's
