So, all in, what does the Carly system cost?

Hardware/Adapter cost?

Software Subscription or one time cost?

Trying to understand if this has value to me over and above the Creator 310 reader that I have.

Thanks.

Mike

Mike, honestly it's not worth it anymore. I am all in ~$160 with all the "new feature" add-ons they used to charge for and all of the adapters. But this pricing model has changed to a yearly subscription service of $60 + you have to buy the adapters. I am grandfathered in since I was an "early adopter" and I have all the features unlocked for life, or until they decide to change their policy.

For the E53, nothing touches a beater laptop with the BMW software suite on it. I will work on getting this setup (again, failed miserably the first time) in the future... but for now Carly + Foxwell 520 Pro does enough that I don't feel an immediate need for it.

Yeah, that annual "subscription" fee really chaps me.....a perpetual annuity for them. I suppose if you are a commercial service provider it would "pencil" but that economic proposal doesn't work for my value system.

I have a beater tablet with Win XP on it that I use for some avionics database updates and engine monitor data downloading that one day I'll figure out how to press into BMW service.

What Win software is used to look at the BMW OBD/ECU?

Here you go:

Those are the main ones. There are others too that supply variations of those. Rheingold makes a package for purchase... but it's $$$.

Over many years, I have migrated through many code readers including the INPA suite. I don't find the INPA diagnostic package to be intuitive and I found it cumbersome to use, especially trying to use it while driving because of the laptop and wired connection. I didn't have the need to use it enough to become proficient so there was always some frustrating learning curve to go through each time using it. I use the torque app for realtime info and the Schwaben by Foxwell 14020SCH dedicated to BMWs scanner for code reading.

Certainly some swear by the INPA suite. If you decide to go that route I know at one time there was a thread dedicated to help using the suite. I think it was on another forum. I searched old posts there and found lots of helpful step by step information.

Yeah, what little I have seen of INPA leaves me with the same impression, not very intuitive and a bit of a learning curve.

Same for me, except I have the Foxwell 520 which I believe is the same.

CW, I'm sure I'm getting the same head unit.

The inpa package I have like mentioned does everything but like everyone else I use it so seldom I loath getting it out because I have to remember/relearn using it all.

pa soft is what I want to use if I can when I have to use the notebook computer. Its easy to use and doesn't require relearning. But there are times it cant handle the problem and I have to break out the inpa stuff.

I now pretty much use the foxwell scanner all the time. I can keep it in the vehicle and it does 99% of what I need a scanner for most of the time. Its just sooooo sloowwww.

Updated the first post with pictures/details. Got some more work done this weekend.

1: Carpeted storage area beneath load floor
2: Built and test fit sub box
3. Cut load floor seam to hinge and allow access to storage compartment
