Sorry for being off forum but just a few photos to show what I fitted to my X3 around 8 months ago. I used 1 USB port for a front DVR and the second USB for the Kensington track ball mouse. It's no I-drive, but does simplify some touch screen functions and can be made discretely and safely while driving. Just a reminder to look on the play store for more user-friendly launch screens. Here I am running Car-dashdroid. It has multiple pages to swipe through, all can be taylored to your liking. The home screen is the one with the time and weather widget. Torque app is bluetooth connected. DVR video can be reviewed, locked or deleted as required. Usual overwrite occurs in normal operation. I currently have Apple and Google play music subscriptions, not sure which one to drop. I find Google music a little easier to navigate around. I use TuneIn Radio Pro for radio streaming from around the globe. My navigation program is Sygic, came with the unit and works fine. Unit accesses the internet via wifi to a 4G (LTE) usb modem plugged into the factory rear boot space 12 volt socket.

Might want to check out the idrive controller Seicane has. Its wireless too. Looks pretty factory.

Any updates on the front camera and sub setups?

Nice setup Neil. We were looking into something similar before selling our X3 in favor of the X35d the wife drives now.

Sorry nothing to report really except that I've finalized the layout of the rack and box. Started building the lower compartment tray that goes on the suspension compressor. Hoping to work on it this weekend but the weather looks like garbage and I hate cutting MDF indoors. Maybe I'll do it under the patio or carport... At any rate the OE load floor will be hinged to allow access to the storage underneath. It's ~5/8" (could be 1/2, could be 3/4... need to remove carpet to tell) material so I might beef it up a little bit to support the ~100lbs of sub, box, amps, and amp rack that is going to go on top of it. Hopefully some progress this weekend. |
Working on our master bath remodel so progress is slow... but I did build the reverse camera trigger circuit last night.

Have enough parts to make up some more. Would be $30 shipped to you. These are super simple to make, I have provided the diagram for those inclined, but if anyone didn't want to take the time/effort... like I said, I have the parts. |
Post #84 .I cannot recall the exact name, but do you remember the IXOS quick connectors for AV. Those were the cat's paw. While we all love neat wiring, add in slack for service. Been there....and it added what felt like 3 hrs of time to unbutton/button things back when needing to get down to the boot.

I agree about slack. Anything that might need to be serviced in the future and would be easier if it were moved 12"... will have at least 12" of slack. Got some more work done in the truck going to update the first post in a few but here's how the electronics box turned out after adding the PDC reverse cam box/wiring. Accidentally ran an extra ground down in there as the Avin had the video in motion ground back there so I had pre-run one to the box. This unit has it up front at the head unit so I grounded it up there and I just tucked the extra one by the PDC and wrapped it up. :dunno: Won't have to go back down in there again. Hopefully. Happy with the mostly OEM(ish) look to the wiring though. https://i.postimg.cc/yxfc5NsB/20190210-233135.jpg |

Never used Tessa tape til Crystalworks told me about it.....awesome...something else to be OCD with.

Thought this was kinda cool. Carly runs as good, or better, than it does on my LG V30. On the less cool side... I need to change my alternator and my only remaining o2 sensor that has not been replaced with the OE style. Seems the spliced in one didn't last that long.
