*The Official E53 Manual Transmission Registry*

I know there is a similar thread on this topic, however I thought I would start a revival since the old one was created in 2012 and last updated in 2017. It was also labelled as a "thread" :dunno:; regardless, thank you Ricky Bobby for your efforts!!

The Google Sheets document linked below is an easier way to track and maintain where some of the 4,446* manual E53s are. This also follows suit with the 4.6is and 4.8is registries.

So, if you have a manual E53, please visit the sheet and update it with your information accordingly.

Manual E53 Registry

Also, feel free to use this thread to discuss anything related to the three-pedal X5 :D

* this number is for North American production vehicles only. No global data was provided by my source.

Thanks for creating this. Its fun to see where some old vehicles ended up as well. I will update once Im able to grab my VIN's.

I joined this forum specifically to see if there's anyone who owns an X5 with a manual. This truly is a rare unicorn and very few were produced in the US. I will likely never meet another manual X5 owner in person because these cars are so rare.

There's a few people in the PNW area that have manual x5's, I just bought one.

Here's the first day I got it and took it into Seattle, then after center caps... Then a few days ago I got OEM BMW cross bars and I put my Yakima Megawarrior basket on. Excuse the parking lot photos, I literally took those now for you lol

There was never a V8 manual available from the factory. There are a few pioneering souls on this forum who have done the conversion.

WilliamX5 is one that comes to mind who has detailed his swap over 26 pages in this thread :)

Manual swaps in the E53 are almost all RWD due to the lack of a manual transmission that mates up easily to both the V8 and the transfer case.

There is one person floating around who has taken the V8 manual swap to a whole new level by modifying the 6-speed transmission bell-housing to mate up to the transfer case to have AWD.

Someday I would love to swap in an s62, but I also want to keep my money lol

New member here, just added my recently acquired 2006 LeMans Blue, Sport Package, Slicktop X5 to the registry. I am very impressed with it and am currently working on a mild restoration/refurbishment with a new steering wheel cover, 6 speed shiftknob, replacement of broken grille mesh, etc. Looking forward to contributing to this community as it helped immensely with repairs on prior X5s I have owned.

Just listed my beloved X on AutoTrader . . . a sad day for me.

Have cared for my 2001 5 spd with aggressive owner mx since purchased in 2009. Been an excellent truck . . . have long commute to work now and sold the boat . . . so it's time for my X to find a new home.
Have enjoyed all the great interaction here on XOutpost.

Regards - Darrell

Damn, that thing is clean. Those wheels look great too (tho they would look better on mine!).

GL with the sale. They are a little thirsty, best I've gotten on road trips is maybe 23mpg @ 70mpg, so I get why you're selling.

Just added mine to registry.
