06 E53 EWS 4.3 transponder chip
Hi all,
I've got just one key so I purchased an AK90, some key blanks and am able to read my existing key as well as the EWS. I cannot write the transponders that came with the new keys. The new keys are "supposed" to be correct for this car according to the seller. The transponders are ID44 PCF7935AA. From what I can find, the PCF7935 is for up to 2004 X5. I searched for a while and cannot find a reference to which transponder chip is appropriate for an 05/06 EWS 4.3 equipped car. Searching for "BMW transponder catalog", I find a list at auto-keys.eu that shows BMW MINI COOPER 2005 2007 Transponder Philips Crypto 2 | ID46 | PCF7936 ( BMW EWS4 system ) If anyone has any input, it would be much appreciated. There are 2 different frequencies. One for USA and one for EUR. Where was your X made?

I'd guess US, but I'm not certain. It's a USA model.

First of all, were you able to synchronize the key with car locking and unlocking?

Yes, the new keys lock and unlock just fine. It's the transponder chip that the AK90+ cannot program to the EWS. It looks like the transponder chips sent with the keys are for EWS 3.

The transponder communicates with the EWS to authorize the vehicle to start. This question revolves around the EWS 4.3 and which transponder chip is compatible with it. Perhaps the Am**** seller of the key will reply to my message. I've got the keys already cut and don't really think I'll be able to send them back. Either that or I take my current key and tape it into the steering column and not worry about it... |
I fixed my typo in my earlier email - yeah, 315MHz in the USA and 433MHz everywhere else.
It 's a lot easier with the older VW transponder chip (ID13 and ID48) - it's in a small glass capsule, so easily moved from key to key. I've also bought new ones and programmed the car to include them. Answering my own question here - about the OEM EWS transponder - looks like the OEM diamond key uses an ELMOS 10030A transponder...

I've ordered a package of ID44 PCF7935AA transponders because the folks at keyecu.com said these only use ID44 chips. I came across a picture of someone holding it vertically in the programmer instead of a video I saw where they simply laid it in the bottom. So I can try various orientations to see what works. I'll post an update in a couple of weeks (because they are coming from China). |
