Lift kits, bigger tires, turning the E53 into more of a "jeep"?

Hey all!

Saw a recent pic of a local E53 that appears to have a lift kit, larger tires (tall sidewalls) and more to convert the X5 into more of an offroad look.

Is there any good source of parts in this direction? My wife LOVES her bone stock 01 E53, but also really wants a Jeep unlimited (the 4 door) as well. When we talked about "jeep"ing her much loved X5, she lit up like crazy!

This is an area I havent looked at AT ALL for the X5.. any great info sources, parts, etc?

Thanks!

Have no idea if they're still around, haven't looked in forever, but I always liked what these guys did with it - BMW E53 Lift Kit Available for Purchase! - Car Repair, & Performance | Fluid MotorUnion | 2108 W. Ferry Rd. Unit 102 Naperville, IL

I would like to see a proper off road E53.

Would be a beautiful things wouldn't it!

Sadly it would probably be cheaper and easier to transplant the X5 body on to a Jeep chassis than it would be to build a truly capable (and affordable) X5 :(

That said, I have every intention of grabbing one of the FMU kits if I can still get my hands on it. Not that I'll put it on tomorrow, but once the 5 moves on from daily driver - the FMU kit sure looks like a lot of fun even if just in the snow on the road :thumbup:

thanks yall.. yes, never making an X5 true "offroad" but 99.9999999% of SUV/SAVs never will anyway. The hope is to build out the X5 into more jeep-like and she can have the best of all worlds.

Just shot off an email to FMU and will see what they say! Thanks yall.

I believe the tires size is 265/70/r17. you have to run spacer to be able to clear the tires. Im actually looking to do this on my 01 3.0 manual after I finish the SC build on the N62.
