You need to list the software you plan to use. K+D CAN cable is used for BMW Tools (INPA, NCS Expert, etc) but will not work with BMW Scanner 1.4 (PA Soft 1.4), it has its own proprietary cable.

A quick look on fleaBay came up with this one in the states. This one is used but was used on a E90 so you may need to solder pins 7 and 8 together to talk to all the modules on your E53. This is the exact cable I bought and I had to bridge pins 7 and 8. There are some others out there that have a switch on the housing to bridge those pins.

Here is one with the switch in place

If you haven't installed the BMW Standard Tools suite, use this link, it explains everything.

Good stuff there sir. I’m going to buy the cable with the switch.

This KK USB cable works on the E53 right out of the box (with INPA, DIS etc) and is cheap.

Won't work on later series cars with CANbus and ISTA D/P - you need the more expensive cable for that...
