Hey All,

Figured I'd open a seperate thread to keep info a bit more central, I've been enjoying this forum a lot and since I own a 4.6IS from 2002 I seem to need a lot about fixing the damn thing :D

I went to the states last week and decided to get a foxwell NT510 elite because the generic scanner I have doesn't give a lot of info, definitely confirmed after hooking up the foxwell hahaha!

Anyway, currently I have an issue where my blinkers work but the inside arrows or the sound do not work anymore. Reading on here it seems my roof window drain might leak onto the LCM , which seems to explain the symptoms (found a youtube video with very similar symptoms)

so here's where I run into my limitations, maybe you guys have some advice:

- I can't seem to get the fault code log from the NT510 to the computer. I installed the program and (I think) I saved the fault code log under a specific name, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone have experience with this?
- I am looking for a seconhand LCM unit, it seems there are a lot that look the same. In the parts diagram I can see three part numbers; 6135696114(0/1/2). I have xenon lights that have automatic height adjustment, but i'm not sure that's adaptive? (guess I can start taking it out as well  )

Pretty sure 2002 waa before adaptive headlights.

I never use the micro SD to pull data from the card but I thought I did look for the folder once and three was a place where it stores logs etc.

Turn signal clicks are generated with a little speaker in the instrument panel so I'm betting a broken trace or sort joint. You may be able to locate abs reflow.

Run auto scan for codes much easier than digging through every submenu. It will help you find which module to go directly next time.

It should confirm the problem is in the LCM or the dash. (I have a permanent error in both: my seatbelt buzzer and one side light never worked).

I had the same issue with the turn signals not showing in the instrument cluster or making the sound but the turn signal bulbs were flashing. Turned out to be my LCM due to slight water damage, previous owner left the front right drain tube disconnected (beneath the pillar trim piece) so water would leak onto the LCM below. Threw a used LCM in off ebay, fixed. Still haven't code matched it to vehicle yet but everything works.

FYI - adaptive headlights came after 04/04 production. I remembered this vividly because my car was built just 2 month shy of getting it

ah cheers for all the advice! I had a bit of time to fiddle around today and since I had a few drops of water coming down from the center console after the car wash it gave greater incentive ;)

So I took off the covers around the A-pillars and poured water down the gulleys in the pano roof. No leaks in the tubes and they drain pretty well actually. However, after incidentally pouring (quite a lot) of water over the rails I found then the water can leak out of the resevoir. it leaks where the guide rail ends into the plastic, from the factory there is some sticky tar-like goop in there to seal things but it's not 100%, seems pretty hard to get that to seal anyway. So the question is whether to try and seal that up, seems I need to take a large part of the pano roof out if I need to get in there

Other than that I learned a few more things from using the NT510 and can now even make a log file in PDF

after looking at everything and clearing fault codes (there were 14 in total I think, some seemed old so figured I'd delete them to see if they come back). The battery died after 4 hours... guess these interior lights and the stereo take some oomph! On the charger now, first i thought I messed the whole thing up with the scanner

funny thing: after resetting the fault codes the indicator lights and sound work again! :D

Maybe your sunroof seal is the problem then. I ordered a new one from pelican due to a recent paint job and it took a month to come in. But I think it does a better job of sealing the gap between the glass and the opening than the 20 year old OEM one did.

is that the rubber strip on the outside? Might be a good idea.

waiting to get a coolant hose in that got chewed up by the belt, hose #3

after enjoying a few glorious drives without the sensation of driving a vacuum cleaner I guess it was inevitable something would go wrong

on the highway I got a screeching noise and a big blue cloud behind me... pulled over and found the fan was completely off the axle. First i thought the mechanic put it on wrong, but after further inspection I saw the belt had been shredded.

turns out the water pump is seized, a small weep rusted the bearing I think. According to the maintenance log I have it was replaced 60k km ago... guess they don't live very long?

dkl 10-01-2021 10:57 AM

Wow...that's very nerve racking for a new water pump to go bad so soon. What brand was it?

guntherrex 10-04-2021 03:02 AM

No idea as of yet, I'll have a look at it soon I hope.
