Bi-Xenon adjustment

Does anyone know how to adjust these up or down for a 2005 X5 4.4?

If it's the same for other BMW's, pop the hood. You will see what looks like plastic white or black "gears" behind the lights. These are the adjustment points for the lights. You can use your fingers to turn them.

I have backed my vehicles out of the garage and closed the door. Then using the grid pattern of the door, adjust them so they're level.

Then back out onto the street and see if you like the pattern. If not, pull your vehicle up into the driveway and repeat as necessary.

The Lights should point down

The X5 is a tall car and the lights should point down.

If its a 2005 ask your dealer to check it for free.

Yeah I did that. This is the 3rd time and every time is different so I'm not satisfied.

Thanks for the info. However your description isn't quite what I have. The 2005 has what appears to be a white adjustment screw that requires a tool ( small blade screwdriver or phillips) that has this pattern +. You cannot use your fingers to turn them. So if someone has made this adjustment i need to know if turning it clockwise is up or down.

Barry,
Look at this post and see if your adjustment knobs are the same (mine is an 04) => http://www.xoutpost.com/95908-post9.html If you look closely, you CAN turn the black knobs that mates to the white knobs with your hand...but a phillip screwdriver on the white knobs is a better choice. The white knob that you want to control up and down is the one toward the center of the hood...a counterclockwise turn will adjust it UP. The knobs toward the fender adjust left and right...a counterclockwise turn on that one will adjust it toward the DRIVER side. Hope that was the answer that you're looking for?

Yep thats close enough. The 2005 have the same white knobs but they are smaller and turning the black part now is a much more difficult option.

Ok one last question. How many turns on these knobs does one need to make before the any change in the elevation of the lamps??

I thought Xenon's were self-leveling. So surely the upward/downward can't be set. Am I wrong?

Self leveling after they are set where you want them. Preferably after they have been adjusted to their factory position. Mine have been set at the dealer 3 times and all three times it's been different.
