I think he means some programming, but I have never seen anything for the 4.8is. I want to know how people get another 40hp, if it is just a chip, I'm curious to know.

As you know one chip will be of nothing, the exhaust, an insertion, the filter, as a result will be a good difference, dynamics increased.
Firm chip
and tuning (Upsolute) on how many I remember, precisely I do not remember. an exhaust did that that on a mix of M of a package

The wheels are 2010 20x11 I wanted the same size wheel all the way around so I could rotate the tires. I have non directional all weather tires.

WR - Looks very nice!

I'm pulling a 5987# load with my '01 5spd.

I just bought a set of 87s and am researching my tires options.

Your tire diameter is much larger than most are using on this vehicle. How is that working out for you?

Most recommended tires for the E53 have a diameter of ~ 29" +/- .5". Yours are 31.13"!!

I think it looks a lot better with the larger tires and I'd like to do the same with mine. The larger diameter will also lower the typically high rpms of our E53s, especially those of us with manuals.

Any issues with tire rubbing, scraping, computer reprogramming, etc?

Regards - DS

No effin way dude. Details. Show the engine pic.

Nick P 11-26-2012 06:46 PM

Videos and infos will follow after I'm sure, there's no mechanical issues with the car. For now every single electrical system working perfectly (ABS, DSC etc, etc), even the rear gear light's working receiving the signal from the stock sensor on the gearbox, there's no vibrations or whatelse. The car drives fantastic.

I will post videos here in about a month, we got the car run just few days ago, so far everythig seems to be perfect, but who knows what can happen.

Regards,

Nick

P.S.: the car will be supercharged in march 2013, if everything willbe ok after conversion.

Did you need an adapter plate to mount up the trans, or did it just bolt up?

What about mounts for the trans? What about drive shafts. Holy crap so many questions. We need you to make a thread, and start talking to us.

hey nick...what are the numbers after supercharging your car...stock hp vs After HP?>....

Nick P 11-27-2012 03:33 AM

Friends, please be patiend! I will start a new thread about the conversion with all infos, pictures and videos - I promise. It's just the matter of trustworthines, this conversion is durable, I dont want to post all details, before I know it will last at least as good as stock transmission. I was seduced to post even these 2 pictures, but just because the whole conversion took 11 months of work. There are just 4 custom parts made for this, 2 of them were casted (and these are zhe parts I'm not 100% confident they will last). All the mountings are just as stock, nothing was moved changed or whatelse.

I terms of supercharging I'm looking rather for humble numbers, because the whole X5s driveline is rather weak, so I'd be happy with 380-390 HP on crank, but for now it's an empty talk, because, the car could break down and we'll start to find alternative solutions again, which will take also a lot of time.

Regards,

Nick

@ricky bobby - It has full coilover suspension from BC Racing. Now I use the rear as an air assist for when I tow my race car.

Indeed. I want to make use of the huge trailer ditch outlet access. I've already brought the battery tub up into the vehicle, deleted the air ride, formed a new fiberglass tub under the roll out floor and drawn up plans to tig up an exhaust chamber. Maybe I'l screw it up completely but it's worth trying to make happen. LOL

No worries about the very different exhaust lenght and configuration left/right?

That's the weirdest exhaust I've ever seen in my life.

I think they were just after getting it done rather than the fluid dynamics of their system! Lol.

There's some more pics on their site, and some with the bumper off the X.

Also, having the mufflers closer to the engine is more restrictive than further back (hot gas vs cold)

Pic of my wife's X5:

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...5112010_02.jpg

I've finally started treating it like it should be treated. For too long, I let it languish as just my wife's car, not treating it as nicely as I have mine. I've left it stock for too long! Now that everything is sorted on it, I have some minor tweaks in store for it.

GOFAST GUY 01-21-2013 09:39 PM

Because I'm going to have all kinds of room at the back end without really anything behind the rear diff, we're working on something high flow but room for lots of exspansion. That's the plan anyways.

She sounds pretty beastly too (not as beastly as yours). I put straight pipes in instead of the resonator...

I am still trying to decide what to do with the roundel's/center caps, i kinda like the look of them black on the wheels and stock hood/tail

mistasteppa 02-01-2013 07:21 PM

She's looking great, and u can buy the carbon fiber inserts for the hood, trunk, and wheels

xsx450 02-01-2013 07:29 PM

Yeah i am trying to decide between the CF ones and the all black ones... I dont know if i want to go ALL black (4.8is, smoke side marker, and the chrome around the roundel). Needs a little bit of offset. I Dont know. I dont wanna smoke the tails/head lights, i had that on a previous vehicle and i prefer the nice bright lights... I just ordered some DEPO projector fogs I plan on retrofitting with HID's as well :)

DTMdan 02-02-2013 11:45 AM

I hate murdered out cars, but it's just so sinister I can't deny that I love this one. I always say OEM roundels > all others, but in this case I vote CF or black/white xsx450. All roundels should match too IMO (including steering wheel). I'd make the 4.8is badges black like you did with the X5 emblem too.

BMW allows it...although we do not accept putting an M badge on a E53 x5(2000-2006) due to e53's Never had an M car :stickpoke so I'm guessing thats why....:dunno::dunno:

Demnn effin right :) .. back in the DAY you didnt have super fast SUVS like u do now - sporting 400HP easy.. so when the 4.8IS came out - it was the words faster SUV for a certain amount of time - the only reason why it didnt get a "M" badge then it because BMW said they will not label such heavy machines (SUVS) with "M". Now a few years later, more trubo-chargers and etc - almost every model has a "M" version.. I feel the 4.8is is more of a M car then anything.. it has all the characteristics - big displacmdent - powerful engine - huge tires - quad exhaust (under-cover) -- if you dont agree thats your feel on it.. and since the 4.8is only had a 2 year run - they gave it its best - before moving on to the new platform..

and when I get the ESS supercharger this year maybe the M badge on the 4.8is will be well deserved..

From what I can discern, the front OEM piece is sold as part of the bumper. There's ones that can be found on ebay (whether they're actually genuine BMW parts or not is unknown to me)

Here's the rear though: http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/51127062601/ES76286/

Picked her up just over 2 weeks ago, 2006 4.8is. Just came from a 2008 Touareg V8, previous to that 2007 Dinan 335. Her other family members right now are my 1973 BMW 2002 as well as an Alfa Romeo Spider. Love the way she drives and looks, have always been partial to the E53 now that I have one I love it!!

For now other than blacking out the grill and hood vents.....maybe some spacers and debadging, she will stay as is. The roundie is going to be taking the #1 mod spot with the turbo flares, dual webber carbs and new cam going in next week!!

They arent the greatest pics....but you can get the jist

New BMW owner, MERC enthusiast otherwise

Hello there,

Please welcome me t the BMW community. My first ever BMW. I always liked mercedes benz, and have been a Benz man, and also have a 190e 2.6 (excellent condition). Sold my S600 for a BMW SAV for the winter. And let me say, i am thrilled with this vehicle. Smooth transmission, excellent drive, no rattles, (except for the pop sound from the back, when i accelerate slowly, fixed it by tightening and adjusting the trunk bushes), and i absolutely love this vehicle.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thum bup:

Problems i have are:

Mirrors fold good but dont stay in the folded locked position, i press the buttong, they fold, come to folding point, and then go back to the open position. I dont know how to fix that, but advise would be great.

Centre console radio display is losing pixels. I dont know how to fix that either. There is no local radio service man in town who can do the job. There is a series of videos on youtube, but i am not confident to attempt this electronic repair. So maybe i'll let it be, or ask the dealership for a fix.

One key doesn't work on radio. I guess i have to get a new battery or a new key.

Ummmm What else?

I changed the engine oil, the antifreeze looks good, check engine light came on and i scanned a stuck open thermostat, i changed that. I replaced the air filter as well.

I need a cabin filter, new power steering filter and fluid, new transmission filter and fluid, new spark plugs and coils, and I love stock lights, but won't mind getting those LED circles in the lights.

Any other suggestions i should keep in mind before i attempt BMW repairs, or general maintenance. Please llet me know.

Thanks all.

Still figuring out how to upload photos.

Hey Guys:

New Xoutpost member here...longtime BMWCCA member. I recently purchased a new to me, 2002 x5 4.6is. I searched for some time to find a super clean titanium silver with the black cloth interior combination. This particular 4.6 has a verified 30k miles on the odometer.

I would like to take a moment to personally thank everyone here in the community for all of the great insights and information which helped me immensely in my research.

I made my first (and likely only) mod which was to replace the steering wheel with an e46 m3 steering wheel with the tri-color stitch...a perfect compliment to the interior.

I thought I would share with all of you some pics I took recently.

One key doesn't work on radio. I guess i have to get a new battery or a new key. <- Do you mean that it doesn't lock/unlock the car? Did you try the initializing process? If that still doesn't work, you need new battery for it.

Power Steering: suck out and re-fill, no need for new filter. ATF: make sure to use the right fluid for your X. Drain and re-fill twice, ~1K miles apart.

What version of the E53 X5 do you have? Hard to suggest anything without knowing what version and mileage. Get a Bentley Manual, very helpful for DIYers.

so jealous of your YOUNG and unmolested 4.6is, enjoy it in good health! looking forward to seeing you post up!

Would love to know where you found that clean 30k 4.6is, the cleanliness and mileage alone is worth every penny, and I looked at your pics, new DWS tires too! Not many things I'd get rid of my 5-speed for, but a low mileage pristine 4.6 is one of those examples!

Please share your story on finding your X, as I'm sure it is an interesting one...

Thanks

Thanks Ricky Bobby...It was definitely a long journey to find a silver/cloth combo with low mileage. There just aren't that many out there.

I actually found some black on black e53 4.8is's along the way with even lower mileage, but I just wasn't feeling the all black Darth Vadar look. I also prefer the pre "facelift" look of the 4.6 vs. the 4.8 as well.

Cheers!

Wow, you bought the twin of our 4.6, only with a 100k less miles. Awesome!

^stop kidding yourself. You have more bimmers than most of us :D
BTW, does the driver's side front grille has broken tab? It's crooked.

Nah... not anymore. I think I have less than you now. It's not a broken tab on that silly thing - the latch to open the hood get's caught on it because there is no cut out for it. Need to go pick up a Dremel tool to fix this.

x2 when I bought my Titan silver grilles I had to dremel the notch for the hood latch.

Looking good, looks like you may need rear fender flares to cover up the rear wheels as they seem to be sticking out now with 25mm spacers :)

tmv 07-20-2013 10:11 AM

Nice looking 3.0
The running board looks like the aftermarket bolt-on aluminum pieces from Taiwan.
Oval tips from Ractive would be an improvement over those round ones.

XVII 07-20-2013 10:26 AM

Thanks for the kind words guys!

@tmv - Just checked out the running boards and it seems they are the bolt-on style, it never caught my eye before..

I'm actually a pretty big fan of the 4" dual walled tips from Billy Boat.. I may dremel out my original exhaust inserts though so you can't see the cans as much.
