hood amblem

I need to replace my hood emblem as it is peeling. Any suggestion/trick to remove the current one?

Tomaz 03-19-2007 11:39 PM

It is held in place by friction clips. Place a rag on the hood so you do not scratch the paint, and with a butter knife or other dull blade gently slide under and pry up the emblem, first one side, then the other, little by little. Good luck

all i did was open the hood and push the 2 pins holding the
current one in place using my key.

My dealer took one of those packaging bands and slid it under the emblem. He held onto both ends and pulled it right off.

We have tools specifically for this job:

This prevents paint scratching when removing your old emblems. More info can be found here: http://www.xoutpost.com/vendor-forum/...tool-sets.html

Mine is peeling too. Looks like crap. What's a new one gonna set me back? Nothing is cheap when it comes to this vehicle!

jbimmer24 01-05-2010 07:26 PM

Mine costed me $12 bucks on ebay, check them out.

Dking05 01-05-2010 07:31 PM

$25-$32 OEM

VD_COOL on ebay is one poo seller for emblems. Trunk is alright. Hood emblem is beyond belief.

All i have to say is... spend the extra buck, its worth it. Just use the overlays on OEM emblems 10yrs > 1yr/less. IMO when i went black i never wana go back. Blue looks alien on a X5 to me now.

BlondyFA 01-05-2010 09:58 PM

What a bargain! Something that's not going to cost me 4 figures to fix!! Thanks!

juppalgae 06-27-2010 01:02 PM

i replaced one for the hood. any instruction for the trunk BMW emblem?

X5Dawg 06-27-2010 01:05 PM

Same thing, just pry it out.

juppalgae 06-27-2010 01:29 PM

tried and was afraid of the attached silver thing might pry out together. no?

X5Dawg 06-29-2010 11:26 AM

You won't remove the chrome ring - you just need to use a dull knife or thin flathead screwdriver to pry the emblem out of the chrome ring. If you are worried about scratching the chrome, put a thin rag between it and whatever you are using to pry it out.

ok thanks! and also, what kind of angel eyes are those including the bulb?

i currently have DEPO with yellow angel eyes and trying to improve the Angel Eye color to Bright White.

Where can you get emblems in Toronto? The Canadian websites don't seem to carry, and one even shows a Chevy Tahoo emblem when you put in al the info for your bmer, so it didn't inspire much confidence, lol.

puddinboo 11-26-2013 10:27 PM

I got mine on ebay about 2 months ago. between 20-30

ProfessorX5 11-26-2013 11:23 PM

Just scored one on eBay. Here's a great vid for getting the old one off, if you're like me and just have to do it 'right.'
