How much do you pay for...
 

I was just wondering what the average cost for an oil change. For some who can't do their own oil change for whatever reason...what do you guys pay for the usual full synthetic oil/filter change?

Just wondering! Wanted to see how much difference in cost to do it myself and just have mechanic do it. I checked around to see synthetic oil and they are usually $6+ and filter is around $12. I remember the X5 uses around 9 quarts or so...

My independent does it for about $100.00 using OEM oil, filter.

Barry, that is a LOT for an oil change! Iirc, the dealer does it for ~$70.

My dlr does it for $87.

My dealer quoted 170.00 for a friggin oil change I told them to pound sand.:rofl:

Just oil change or was there some sort of 130 point inspection or something with that?

8 qrts + oil filter all OEM for $55 + $17 local shop labor = $72 every 3k miles.

hmm, we have a free oil change here in KZ, so I pay only for oil and filter itself... 1 litre of full sinthetic costs me about 50 bucks :)

Actually at $75.00 per hour it's about right in NorCal for an independent BMW shop . You gotta remember mine is still under warranty so we don't let the dealer know what i do on the side. Dealer prices can be cheaper because oil changes are used as bait for other service

Novax5 says it's about $60.00 for Oil. (Does that include filter? No!) Oil filters about $8.00 ball park and you right at $70.00 Then you add about 1/2 hour labor and your looking at $100.00. I do business with the independent because he has alway taken care of my BMW's. In fact he just did a brake job on our Mercedes priced at the Mercedes dealership for $1300.00 for $650.00. ;) So he gets a few extra dollars for an oil change. I get it back down the line. :thumbup:

buy oil and filter at fairfax bmw for $55 go to sunoco on rolling road and ask them to perform the service for $17. thats $72. only half hour wait.

Isn't that a lil nutty! So ur saying the manufacture doesn't know what they're talking about?

In Portugal i buy the oil kit filter in the BMW for 8€ and then i buy the oil in a shop and the shop change me the oil for free. I can buy any oil but i only use the best one:;) ;) ;)

I use Castrol Edge Sport 0W-40 - 55€ for 4 Liters.

So i use around 8 Liters 110€ + 8€ for filter = 118€

Lots of ppl here change the oil more than the manufactor recomends. Some SA's and lots of bmw owners do it every 5000 to 7500 miles.

If your talking about the recommended frequency of oil service by BMW well it appears the consensus is that 15,000 miles is too long between oil changes. So some folks do it every 7500.

$70 is a steal. Dealers here charge between $200-$250 (CAD) for an oil change, after they add on all their bogus shop supplies, recycle levy, tax etc.

Imho, frequency of oil change depends on conditions - gas, manner of driving, traffic jams, etc. As we have very bad gas here in KZ, I change the oil every 6250 miles for gosilne engines and 5000 for diesel.
