Is the oil filter OEM? I've heard that non OEM filters seem to act funny..not sure if thats true or not since i've only always used OEM filters..

The filters we include are OES (Original Equipment Supplier, ex: Mahle, Mann, or Hengst). All three of those brands are suppliers to BMW for the filters.

We also have filters available in 5 and 10 packs!

any discounts for x5world members?;)

ECS Tuning 01-19-2009 12:48 PM

Currently we do not offer any specific forum discounts. We try to price our products as competitive as possible so that everyone (forum members, Google customers, etc...) can take advantage of the same pricing. Never hurts to ask though!

What is the large black o-ring in the picture used for? I assume the two smaller ones are for the drain plug?

I believe that is for the oil filter cap

ECS Tuning 02-06-2009 09:01 AM

Correct, the large black o-ring is used for the filter housing.

dougpham 02-07-2009 01:51 PM

Do you offer free shipping with $75 order or so? without free shipping, it is not competitive.

Thanks,

ECS Tuning 02-09-2009 10:18 AM

We have free shipping on select products, however the maintenance and service kits do not have free shipping due to their weight.

Thanks again for the orders everyone!

Question - If I get the Service Pack II and give to a mechanic, about what should I expect to pay and how long would it take?

Thanks.

ECS Tuning 02-26-2009 10:53 AM

Pricing will probably vary quite a bit from shop to shop, and that can depend on area / location as well. I'd suspect any shop should be able to complete things in a few hours. For a rough estimate, I'd probably say 3 hours at (x) (x being the shops hourly rate).

I'd say the best bet would be to call around to a few shops and see what they have to say.

Strip9r 02-26-2009 01:54 PM

Got my kit in the mail yesterday. Thanks for the quick delivery.

ECS Tuning 03-04-2009 04:04 PM

ECS Tuning 03-05-2009 09:17 AM

When we became a sponsor of x5world, we worked out a package to be able to post in the main model forums as they see more traffic. We do our best to keep the posts in the main model line to a minimum, however we feel it gives us much better interaction with the forum members.

jmweb 03-05-2009 08:31 PM

ahhhh congratulations on the deal, it's a good one.

shame on you x5world for selling out.

cjawahir 03-17-2009 10:21 AM

what oil do you have for the turbo diesel x5?

cj

ECS Tuning 03-23-2009 10:43 AM

We actually have some Motul Specific LL-04 available in 1 liter and 5 liter. We will be adding a category on the website for the X5 Diesel, however it can be found here currently:

ECS Tuning 03-26-2009 11:10 AM

Thanks for the feedback, we will work on having the model listed on the website here as soon as possible.

Thanks again!

Can I do the service inspection by myself? have many of you done it or you just take to your mechanic and get it done?--are there any instructions here on doing the whole thing yourself...So after doing myself do the bars reset, I'm down to my last bar....

ECS Tuning 03-27-2009 07:35 AM

The service inspection can certainly be done either as a DIY or done by a shop, really it comes down to a personal preference. I personally enjoy doing the work myself and hanging onto any receipts for "proof" of the service being completed.

As far as instructions go, there should be some information in the Articles section here that goes over some of the individual processes. The owners manual should have a section on resetting the service indicator and there may also be some information on here as well.

X5 Meister 03-27-2009 08:23 AM

Hi ECS Tuning. Can you post a photo showing the bottle front and back of BMW transfer case oil - TF 0870 ?

ECS Tuning 03-27-2009 08:42 AM

Unfortunately we do not currently have a bottle in stock to take a photo. If the product gets ordered, we will have photos up as soon as it comes through the warehouse.

It can be found here on the website:

BMW Part Number Search - ECS Tuning

X5 Meister 03-27-2009 09:15 AM

Okay. Wow, no one ever ordered it?!

ECS Tuning 03-29-2009 08:51 AM

Correct, it has not come through the system yet but we will have photos available as soon as it does.

I love ecs tuning for certain things like the maintenance and service kits for the engine oil changes ect but do they have a maintenance/service kit for the transmission and diffs ect?
I"ve just hit 100k in my 02 4.4 x5 and i"m trying to do the right thing and flush the tranny, change the diff oil ect and service everything i can.

ECS Tuning 05-12-2009 09:15 AM

Thanks for the kind words!

We do not have a specific kit for a transmission flush, but we certainly do have all the components available. A complete list of everything available can be found here:

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you'd like me to put together a shopping cart with the proper amount of fluid, filter, etc.

Whats the status on the Ziza X5 license plate bulbs? The ETA date keeps getting bumped up? :( I've had mine on order since April? Order # 259-382-509.

Chris

ECS Tuning 05-18-2009 09:19 AM

Unfortunately the LED plate bulbs keep getting pushed back. We have a large amount on order, but until they arrive it will hold things up. We will be sure to get them out as soon as they arrive, but it's looking like a few more weeks yet.

Any plans to carry the transmission oil for the 2004 - 2006 ZF 6HP26 (GA6HP26Z)? I believe the spec is Shell M-1375.4 or ZF #S671 090 255 (1 L) LifeGuard 6.

X5 Meister 05-30-2009 01:54 AM

3 Attachment(s)
BMW sells it in drum quantities. BMP Design sells it in gallon quantities that were taken from a 20 liter drum. BMW ATF M1375.4 P/N 83-22-0-142-516. $169.95 per gallon and free shipping. This comes to $44.90 per liter. You will need 9.5 liters which is 2.5 gallons, but will have to buy 3 gallons = $509.85

BMP design : BMW Automatic Transmission Fluid (M-1375.4)

Update:
Apparently BMW now sells it in 1/2 liter bottles p/n 83 22 0 406 929 retail $15.87. This comes to $31.57 per liter. Again, 9.5 liters = $301.53.

Note that Shell M1375.4 is a ZF formula blended by Shell for ZF applications. It is no longer available as Shell M1375.4, only as LifeGuard 6 fluid (S671 090 255) or an OE packaged fluid like the BMW one above.

Here is a list of distributors where you can buy the fluid as LifeGuard 6. It comes in 1 liter bottles for about $38.83, or 20 liter drums and 55 gallon drums.

ZF Friedrichshafen AG / ZF Parts Distributor Locator

Update: Please see post #63 in this thread.

Unfortunately we are not able to sell the OEM fluid in smaller quantities. We do have the Redline Dexron ATF (D4) available which meets the OEM specifications of Shell M-1375.4

It can be found here on the website:

Thanks for the info! One of my local ZF rebuilders would sell it for about $40 / L, so pricing is the same.
I see BMW does have a part number for the 1 L size (83 22 0 144 137) though it states "For Germany Only".

X5 Meister 06-07-2009 07:27 PM

Happy to help. Where did you get the -137 part number? I've never seen that one before.

Thanks for the reference; found it. Very interesting. In looking for it I came across this... also quite interesting. I thought BMW said no additives?! At 71.5 Euros for the liter, this stuff must be liquid extract from bald eagle piss.

Weasel, killcrap, et al.... have you guys ever used this stuff?

X5 Meister 06-08-2009 02:45 AM

I haven't seen where the ZF LifeGuard 6 is spec'd. (pic below) As far as I know and from everything I've read the Shell M-1375.4 is the only fluid recommended and there are no substitutes.

Update: Spoke to a ZF tech and apparently ZF LifeGuard 6 actually IS the Shell M1375.4 fluid !

Update: Here is place where you can buy the ZF LifeGuard 6 fluid in 1 liter bottles: ZF LifeGuard 6 - 1L Container

I did hundreds of oil changes on different car in my life but it's going to be the first time on the X5, is there anything specific that I should know before I drop the oil ?

Thanks

AA

ECS Tuning 08-20-2009 12:36 PM

If you have changed oil before it should be a fairly straight forward process on the X5. Just make sure you get the oil to drain past the skid pan to avoid a mess.

Ok thanks for the advice. On another note I just pass the 100 000 KM so I think it would be a good idea to flush the AT oil and replace filter, I also want to replace the water pump as a preventive maintenance and probably both radiator hoses any suggestion ?

Thanks

AA

ECS Tuning 08-21-2009 08:50 AM

Certainly, more than happy to help out!

Which year / motor combination do you have on your X5? We should certainly have a few options available for replacement parts, but just want to make sure we are getting you the correct parts.

The notifications come because you are subscribed to the thread. If you click the "thread tools" link at the top of the page and click "unsubscribe", it will stop sending out the emails when the thread is responded to.

Yes I know that, but I don't want to unsubscribe from this thread because I want to know about new things from you guys, but I'm getting a notification of the same reply everyday and after your "Thanks for the order!" message nothing else has been written. If there were new replies I wouldn't mind but there's something wrong with the notifications here. Not your fault though, I just wrote something to see if they would stop.

ECS Tuning 09-10-2009 09:51 AM

Well... actually, it is our fault. We do bump the thread (typically once a day), so the email you are getting is that response posted. Unfortunately the only way to make it go away is by unsubscribing from the thread, or just deleting the email when it comes through. Our apologies for the inconvenience, but it is the only way to keep the thread from getting buried each day.
