Help!lowered x5 4.6 rear link( self lvl inactive warning came on
 

Hello All

I recently lowered my X5 4.6is its the one with air ride in the rear.
After changing the link in the rear to lower it a warning popped up.

Self level susp inactive. what does that mean? do i have to take it to the dealer to get it reprogrammed because i lowered the rear with new links or is there now another issue?

I used H&R Springs up front and H&R rear links


Any light to this issue would be appreiated

Must have dislodged or damaged the rear sensors when you did the install. Or the front height sensor. I've got the H&R setup too- springs front and shorter adjustable links in the rear. Installation went in with no problem, didn't need to program anything. I have however broken the H&R links in the rear 3 times now. I keep spares in my glovebox.

I think i did damage one of the rear sensors. The drive side rear sensor rod, i accidently put the truck down but didnt make sure the rod was facing outwards, drove around for abit then warning came on.. I lifted it back up and noticed my mistake. I then corrected it in hopes it didnt look broken or anything that it would clear but it didnt.

where is the front height sensor? Id like to check them too.

There's a sensor on one of the front corners, can't remember which one. It's there so the computer can compare front to rear heights, and adjust the rear airbags accordingly.

Wonder if you hurt the internal electronics by operating the rear sensor outside it's normal range. You could have the car scanned to see if that's the fault. But first check the front sensor and make sure you didn't knock off the plug while you were changing the front springs.

No need to check the front... you mentioned the problem, I did the same thing. When you lower the X off the hoist or in general make sure the link moves up and not down otherwise you will get the message.

It happened to me looked underneath and saw the link went the other way, lifted the X, positioned the link and sllllooowly lowered it back. Warning went away. Goodluck
