LCD on NAV monitor changes color => turns yellow

Hi everyone,

the LCD on my NAV randomly turns yellow. When I turn the screen off or give it a little bump to the side, it's ok again.

Any ideas? Is there a loose connection that I can fix in a DIY?

Thanks,
CH

It certainly sounds like a loose connection to me. This could be either back at the nav drive or behind the screen unit itself.

I get the yellowish blend, even when I'm not in Nav mode (listening to radio, etc). I'm guessing it must be at the back of the screen then.

Do you have any advice on how to remove the navi computer? Will any of my preferences be deleted, if I remove it?

The main thing to remember when disconnecting the nav computer is NEVER remove the connections if there are any blinking lights on the face of the nav drive. Always make sure the unit is inactive before removing power.

Your preferences will not be lost if you remove it.

You didn't mention the year of your X5, but assuming it has the widescreen monitor then here are instructions for how to remove that - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all...n-removal.html

yes, I have the 16:9 screen.
I'll give it a try on the weekend. The loose connection is probably in the wires going from the unit to the screen. I'm not sure, if the problem is in the connectors inside the unit or inside the screen.. or if it's the cable alltogether.

I'll keep you updated

I have the same problem

-chc- 03-28-2011 08:46 AM

@ ika: how did you solve it?

Does anyone know, if I can still use my car, if the navi is not installed :-D (just in case i don't get it fixed on one weekend)

Hi,
I've recently had this problem on my 2005 model.
There's a few people over on xdrivers.co.uk with the same thing as well & with their advice I took my head unit out & cleaned the connector plugs & pins ( with contact cleaner ) but this didn't make any difference so next I got access to the tv module in the boot & did the same with these connections.
Colour returned to normal & has been ok for a week now ( fingers crossed )
Hope this helps.
Phil.

its interesting if others with same problem have Tv Module.
I have and will clean contacts.
Sometimes I have strange problem: everything works, but buttons on nav(Phone button works). If I press any button - no action. Rotary function works, I can move cursor and control volume. Wheel control works fine.

Hi

I'm one of the people from xdrivers (UK) who have had the screen issues and mine has been since November and like you all said sometimes its fine then it just goes. Mine has been yellow/black/white'ish now for 3 weeks. I have taken out the had unit and cleaned the contacts where the cables are seated and also replaced my car battery as I thought this may have been a problem as well.

Today I went into the boot and cleaned all the contacts at the back that go into the module and still it was a yellow colour. I removed the headunit after reading the how to on this site and then have played with the ribbon cables at the back and given a general check over with clean up and now I'm back to beautiful colour again. I don't know how long it will last or if its fixed but thought I would share. Alpine wont do anything as they just say go back to BMW and for a new unit at $1765/£1100 :wow: they can get stuffed!:nanana:

Hey ITBarbie, share with us if cleaning the ribbon cables at the back of the head display solved the issue! Thx, CHC

This happened last year to mine. Got the ribbon in the headunit off, cleaned and then re-seated. Then, I did the connectors on the TV-Module (blue and white), cleaned the pins.

Has worked this long...

hambone1983 03-31-2011 09:00 PM

where is the tv module wire? located?

thanks

Take a look at this thread:

BTW: I noticed that my monitor seems to turn yellow, whenever the temperature inside the car reaches a certain level. I might be wrong, but it constantly happens after 30min driving with the heating on.. :-P

ITBarbie 04-02-2011 08:16 AM

Lots of people complained that they thought that maybe the screen issues were related to weather and even I did at first but I am certain now that mine was caused by the ribbons cables at the back of the screen. Mine been okay ever since

ITBarbie 04-04-2011 06:15 PM

Hi
