Hi guys,

Long story short, my wife and I were in a small accident, some guy ran a red light and made an illegal right turn into our car. With the car having to go in for body work, it finally gave me the motivation to get all my exterior work done. All the work was done at a certified BMW body shop; Patrick BMW collision center, they even gave me a 2011 5 series to drive while the work was being done. I love the way the 4.8is looks but also love the meteor grey that the car came in (and to my knowledge doesn't come in 4.8is in the states) so here was the next best thing...

Here's the list of new mods:
Oem 4.8is full front bumper
Oem rear bumper
Oem 4.8is exhaust tips
Oem matte black window trim

Previously done:
Lemans SE front & rear fender arches
KW coilovers
Oem sport struts and tightened suspect and alignment
Oem style 166 wheels
Oem RBs

Sorry for the lack of side profile pic as the pics were forwarded to me by the dealer. When I pick it up tomorrow I'll take better ones...Let me know what you guys think...

Naz24 07-18-2011 08:18 PM

That looks sweet! So jealous!

Matyoka 07-18-2011 08:34 PM

Who dare say that the X5 is not the sexiest SUV on the roads? Your Meteor Gray BMW X5 is pure sex!!!

Dking05 07-18-2011 10:11 PM

Nice upgrade.

What made you want to get matt trim and (Lemans edition) rear -lower- flares in stead of the normal 4.8is look? Looks unique in a way.

None-the-less.. Amazing job!

Jordo 07-18-2011 10:19 PM

So jelly of that color! I looked high and low for it.... had to settle for the light grey.... that everyone has.

TriX5 07-18-2011 10:24 PM

Beautifull!!

AlecX5 07-18-2011 10:57 PM

Thanks- Naz, Jordo & Tri!

Matyoka- I agree I think a 'nicely' done X5 can give a RR sport and Cayenne a run for their money, aesthetics-wise.

Dking- thanks man! Actually bought the LM SE arches before the kit, not thinking I was going to do the whole 4.8 'look'. I think they may have been a little cheaper with the running boards...Chose the matte window trim rather than semi gloss/gloss bc It matched the matte moldings, arches and roof rack. With no gloss black I thought the trim might look out of place and from what I've read its harder to maintain.

TriX5 07-19-2011 07:51 AM

The e53 looks way better than either an RR or a Cayenne....

The Cayenne to me looks pregnant, nothing like the timeless design of the Carrera. It has improved a lot over the years but it still looks bloated. The RR design is from the 70s! Compare it to the original RR design and it basically looks the same with a few tweaks.

I like the RR Sport and I would buy a pepper GTS in a heart beat but the Xs are way ahead on design.

Kw c/o's is the ONLY way to go in my opinion. Only downside is you have to bring it to the stealer to have the "susp inact" error removed.

Beautiful! I love those "snowflake" Style 177 wheels are one of my favorites, look great, and are not all that common. The Meteor Gray is gorgeous! Lucky Canada got the 4.8is in Sterling (?) Gray.

Yeah, not too far. I'm in Lincoln Park/Lakeview area, close to Wrigley Field.

dwhite832003 07-27-2011 08:24 AM

you must garage that beast... I wouldn't dare to leave it parked in the streets of Lincoln Park...too many parking accidents from people who don't know how to drive...

lol, your showing your age! It's written "sic". Sick, means you wanna vomit!

OP, as your X is stunning, if it were mine, I think the only other exterior upgrade I would do, would have wheel spacers that put the wheels flush with the fender flairs that you installed.

Really tho, your X is beautiful.

x5sportman 07-30-2011 07:03 PM

Sick

I'm pretty sure the common street term is "sick". "Sic" is latin for "thus" meaning as originally written.

What are the flares on the front arches? I have a '06 4.8iS fully optioned and do not have those front flares.

The OP installed a different flare kit from the 4.8is stock on.His kit came standard also came standard on some 2006 Special Edition Models. This kit differs from the 4.6/4.8is in that it has different rear bumper side inserts.(check out my avatar)

Also FYI,all 4.8is in Europe come standard with the front extended fender flares, unlike in the US.You can ,however, still buy them separately :)

AlecX5 08-01-2011 11:07 AM

Thanks Jordo and Vegas. I actually have 25mm H&R spacers on the rear. Here's some better rear stance pics..http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...5/32a4377e.jpg
http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...5/DSCN0577.jpg

Spike X5, they are OEM 20inch BMW Style 177 wheels (not 166 like I wrote in the first post) They came on some 04'-06' 4.8is. Tires are Toyo Proxies, not sure the exact size.

Powers, they are the LeMans limited Edition fender arches, not the OEM 4.8is arches. They have front add ons as well and only work with stock Rbs. Here's the link-> BMW E53 X5 N62 4.8L > Exterior > View All > ES#1892130 Fender Flare Retrofit Kit - 51710398336

powers1 08-01-2011 03:03 PM

Hi AlecX5,
I had already said in my previous post ,that your fender kit is not stock 4.8is.Overhere they are just called Special Edition flares kit but have same OE part #.I know it comes with the front flares as well...I also know the difference between this and the stock 4.8is kit...But I already said all this in my reply to Sapphires question:dunno:
I thought I explained quite well all the differences :D
Nope,I forgot to add that the rear bumper side inserts are also different!I personally prefer them over the OE 4.8is inserts, especially as each insert ,when bought separately, cost only USD20.00,each,as opposed to approx.USD $174.00 for each 4.8is insert .

I fitted same kit as yours recently on mine and I know it only fits cars with ARBs.:)

You got a winner there.:You got really good value for money with that "special edition"(Le Mans) flares kit, especially when compared to a full 4.8is kit.
Your car looks great and that kit transformed it...Congrats:thumbup:

Jordo 08-01-2011 07:28 PM

Yeah that close up pic is the look I was talking about! So, you have the best color, a dope set of wheels, with flares that look trick! I'm am so jealous of your X.

If you have the cream color interior.......

AlecX5 08-01-2011 11:27 PM

My bad Powers, thanks again!

Jordo...interiors black although she's got non- sport seats and steering wheel, which I'm not too keen on. Next project is DRL Angel eyes...any advice is appreciated!

JayX5 08-03-2011 01:37 PM

That's one good lookin' X! Which KW kit did you get? I'm definitely digging the the flares!

HotShark; the LeMans SE Retrofit kit that i have is only compatible with OEM running boards. I got them from ECS, i think i put the link somewhere in this thread.

It must be my aging eyes.. but, what is the difference in the Lemans kit versus the stock 4.6 or 4.8 trim? I cannot see a difference in the flares or the rear bumper cover. Can anyone help pinpoint the differences?

Hey Alec, gorgeous x5!

how much did you pay for the 4.8is front bumper and rear bumper? I have a 3.0i and was wondering if I can get this done too? I love the look of the 4.8 is.

What is sport struts and tightened suspect alignment?

What color is your grille? Did you buy it or done it yourself?

Thanks

cecilcohen 11-07-2011 12:43 PM

Nicely done!
How is the ride with the coilovers? Also how much lower are you able to go?
Did you need any additional OEM parts to mount the coilovers...or was it plug and play essentially?
thanks

fraserp 11-07-2011 01:58 PM

Hey AlecX5 -- now you piss me off --- i was thinking to lay off the mods for a while and now you got me all winded up. Damn that x looks good. I have the same colour and same set up except for the 4.8is front and rear bumper and tail tips. I have the eisenmann race exhaust, but now because of you i am now looking for the front and rear bumper for my beast. did i remember to say your X looks DAMN SWEEEEET

Xoutpost.com - Xoutpost.com wheels.htm

177s are for the E53/X5. 20" wheels with the proper offset.

197s are for the E90/3 series. These are probably smaller wheels and have smaller offsets.

PandaTrader 11-08-2011 07:54 PM

thanks TwinsPoppa

fraserp 11-10-2011 03:52 PM

I think its called Brush Aluminium Running Board and you do need to get the matching Fender Flares or wheel well flares for that type of running board. Twinspoppa knows alot more about them and will chime in

fadyasha 04-04-2012 02:03 AM

I know i'm a bit late on this thread since I just joined but damn that beast turned out beautiful! it's just where i'm heading with my E53 :D Quick question though did yours originally come with the headlamp washers? Mine doesn't :(

So once I go down this route will need to get some work done to actually get them working lol

4x4coots 04-04-2012 03:06 PM

Man, the X5 with a drop and some nice wheels really makes you think twice if it really is still an SUV, lol.

nicely done Alec .. u should check out mine..

rogerkiu 06-27-2012 11:07 AM

Are these forum rules? If they are I had no clue.
What is concidered old? 1 year two years?
Why is it not ok to revive them if they are concidered too old to revive?

There's no such rule of course. He did complement on a car that a member no longer owned, and the owner might not even a forum member anymore. I didn't say that he, the new member, broke any rule.
To me, if the thread was dropped passed 5th page, it's old. If it hasn't been reply to for a year, it's dead.

Helihover 10-02-2015 09:22 AM

Ok so if I understand correctly, bumping a thread that's over a year old is bad forum etiquette.

So we probaly should unsticky the bottom two sticky's as they have not been replied to for several years.

I always thought a lot could be learned from old post. In fact when I'm searching for an answer, I sometimes pull up old post. And sometimes bumping these old post will bring something up again that no one has seen or thought of.

Example here would be the "coding what not forget" thread. Or "cool hidden features on our X". Some newbs don't even know about these threads, yet if I bumped one of these older threads, you guys would think I have bad manners?

If this is the way of the forum, why does the server hold on to post over a year old? If they did not, IMO, the forum would not be as usfull, hence pulling up old threads.

I think there's an exception to this.

I've bumped a few of my old threads on alignment/summer compound tires and brakes, to give long term wear results.
