MID & CD Tray Removal
Has anyone attempted to remove the MID & CD tray from their X5.
I'm about to start the installation of my new Kenwood DNX6690HD but am having a hard time removing the existing tray. I've been searching for hours now with little information found. It looks like it may need to be cut out? I was hoping for a less violent solution :) Any links to videos etc., would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, CP |
Disregard... Pretty certain it needs to be cut. Looks like a job for the pro's!

Yes, most posts I have seen about installing a double DIN head unit like the Pioneer Avic, the middle part of the frame has to be cut.

I have done mine for a Nav retrofit.
Look under the X5 how to's for Nav Retrofit and the information is all in there (this might help: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all...system-x5.html). Search the internet for x5 Nav retrofit. There is the BMW manual for it and it shows how/where to cut. Anyone can do it if you can use a Dremel or similar.. |
I used a single din, the kit i got placed the stereo closer to the top so it slid right in without any bad modifcations. I know on the stero its self there is a little hex screw on a bottom corner, then use a pick in that same hole and it comes right out.

In the end, I went with the pro's and they did an adequate job. I'm not super happy with the installation but can clean it up myself from here. I'll post pictures in a couple of weeks when I get back home and have a chance to get at it. Cheers, CP |
