Rear and Front Differential Fluid

I stopped by my local performance store yesterday and asked for recommendation on the red line gear lube. The shop owner recommended 75W-90 GL-5 as for the rear and front diff. I bought 2 qt of this. What do you professionals out there think about GL-5 and any recommendation?

RedLine 75W-90 is one of the fluids we recommend in the E53s differentials. Great choice.

I switched out the OE fluid to Mobil [1] 75-90 Syn (GL-5) at 100k miles. At over 150k now with ks of miles towing a 6k lb trailer, even towed my brothers 7500 lb boat/trailer from north PA to Toms River NJ last month. No issues.

Agree...had my Indie do that drain and change a yearish ago on our '01.
Fwiw, it was my very experienced Indie's first choice on brand/viz, etc.

Hey Guys,

Thank you all the for input. I only bought 2 qt do you guys know what is the capacity of the front and rear diff and what torque should I tight but drain and fill bolts?

Yea the rear is about 1.6, and the front is about 1., or the other way around. You deff need another bottle.

ECS Tuning 08-10-2012 01:12 PM

From one of the guides I have handy fronts 1.3 pints and rear 2.5 pints

SlickGT1 08-10-2012 01:15 PM

Yea so the rear has more. I just did this about two weeks ago. 2 bottles is not enough.

Thanx I will go and grab another one bottle. As for the front Diff do any of you guys know a better way to get to the fill hole as I know it is PITA to get to it.
