what's the sound cover? Is it the big cover on the engine where the emblem is ? Thanks.
I agree, mine 06 is a saber-tooth and yours is a dinosaur. :)

If it was a timing chain guide/tensioner it would rattle and not hiss.

bulkwarrior 12-27-2012 03:21 PM

Oh, so it should sound more like a diesel engine if it's the timing chain guide? Like "ta-ta-ta-ta"? I would rather it's the serpentine belt which is much cheaper to fix(maybe I can DIY). Thanks.

IanP 12-27-2012 03:25 PM

Mine certainly sounded like a stuck tappet or a cheap diesel. Then it broke:tapping:

mine was hissing as a vacuum leak... before i ended up buying a new truck...

bulkwarrior 12-27-2012 03:48 PM

hey terminator do you think the hissing in my video sounded like your truck? Thanks.

TerminatorX5 12-27-2012 03:53 PM

i am at work, can't listen to the sound.. will do that once i am home...

If you can not clearly pinpoint the sound to an external source, the last thing left is internal location in the engine... once the chain start slapping around, the aluminum casing of the engine will break, as these engines are designed to crumble in case of an impact, as a safety feature in an accident... ask me how I know... well, don't ask me, it is still a sore subject!!! lol...

I sure hope I am wrong about your case...

Pulleys! All my friends replaced all pulleys, belts, water pump and thermostat at 60,000 miles per Mike Miller (Tech Editor) from Roundel magazine.

bulkwarrior 12-27-2012 04:37 PM

hi abwmma, is that(pulley and belts) a DIY job or must be done in the shop? What's the estimated cost for a shop job? Thanks.

abwmma 12-27-2012 06:14 PM

well when was the last time you replace them?
