More 4.4 Transmission issues :(
I have not been able to drive my x5 for almost a year now because I am worried I might do more damage to the transmission and I don't have 6K to spend on a tranny with the X5 isn't even worth that. Anyway, After driving around for a while and letting the tranny heat up I am getting a horrible jerk from a stop. If I stop at a light then the light turns green I go to hit the gas and it revs a bit and then jerk! off she goes. I also notice this when shifting from reverse to drive. I have to wait 30 seconds or so before hitting the gas, also slow to shift when cold from 1-2.

It does sound like the fluid is low......make sure you look the proper procedure to check and add fluid. I'm not positive ....you have to look it up but I think there is a inspection bolt on the trans and after you warm the engine up and go through all the gears you pull the bolt out and fill the trans until it just starts to come out with the engine idling. I'm not sure if there is even a dip stick on that model.

I suggest getting a diagnosis and having the OBC checked for fault codes from a well recommended transmission shop that is familiar with BMW transmissions. They will provide a repair estimate. Sounds like you have let it sit for a year based a cost assumption?

When you check the fluid level was the engine cold and the engine running? If either the engine was hot or the engine not running you will have a low ATF.
