Yaaah....winner winner chicken dinner !! Codes P2457 and P0401
My 2012 diesel has been running just fine. Took her in to the Stealership for passenger air bag recall and some bolt/alternator recall. Work gets done within the day. Drive it away and it almost totally stalls, check engine light and reduced power. Back I got to the Stealership pronto. They take it back in and 10 min later, it's back. Sir you have the EGR valve code, but we cleared it........ but just keep an eye on it. 20 min later on the drive home, check engine light, but she still drives fine.
Yeah, so the stalling, in my limited knowledge about diesels, I don't think had anything to do with the EGR Valve. I think they messed up and didn't reconnect something or something. But what I do find odd is that all of a sudden I have EGR/cooler issues when everything was just fine. A bunch of people I talked to have specifically without hesitation said that the Stealership is shady as sh!t |

So why isn't the car at the dealership now???
When they told you to 'keep an eye on it', you should have refused the car. |
and correct me if im wrong, but 2457 and 0401 are both EGR-related codes, no?

The egr valve and cooler are just above the pulley they changed. Look for the shiny new pulley under your alternator. To replace, they remove the cross bar to make room but there is a chance something got knocked loose. The cooler does have a delicate vacuum line connection on the black actuator on the bottom side. Check that the vacuum line is still hooked up.
Not sure about the stalling. You can completely unplug the electrical connection on your egr valve and your X5 will run great. Just with a check engine light lit. |

Was at Maranello. Left because I don't trust them. I have someone else I trust looking at it. An independent. I'm hoping it's just something knocked loose. I have no warrantee left = no stealership visits.

There is a chance they drained your battery. My dealer left my ignition on during the entire pulley repair (my dash cam recorded). A bad battery can cause stalling and odd codes.

Lets hope. 'Not trusting' them isnt a reason to 'let them off the ook for damaging the car', IMO. Striking while the iron was hot- (ie immediately) and forcing them to document the failure in a written work order is the kind of documentary evidence that can be valuable. Now the indy will screw with it; tell you the cooler is broken; and you are looking at $2k, and a car in pieces- a week later and NO leg to stand on with Maranello. Really, hope it works out- but sometimes you need to be hyper aggressive with these AHs to protect yourself. GL |
