2010 BMW X5 vs 2011 X5 in pictures

Dropping this link from Auto Rivals in here because I can never find it and literally have to show friends the difference between the 2010 and the 2011 or they'd never know the difference :) Hope some of you like it too.

Kind of like the old front end better.

MFL101 05-05-2010 07:20 PM

2011 is much better

LeMansX5 05-05-2010 08:33 PM

comparing a 50i with 3.0 and 40d with 4.8i ;)

Just happened upon a 2011 at my local dealer that was the same color. Couldn't resist the opportunity to park alongside it and take a few pics.

I was honestly torn between which looked better. For me, I liked the more "rugged" look of the 2007 with the black bumpers. Plus, I think the 2011 bumpers will scratch and get marked alot easier than the prior years.

I'm guessing that if you showed both cars to someone who had no prior X5 knowledge, it would be a toss up.

Just my opinion though.

^^ Good catch. I am waiting to see how many members here switch the taillights to facelift and how many do the full front facelift. Seen quite a few E53 members do facelift on their pre-facelift X5s. I know it will happen with E70 too. ;)

new rear definitely looks improved

is the hood the same part or am I seeing the new one flatter - maybe just the angle?

notaminivan 05-07-2010 09:15 AM

I believe that is a 35i and not a 50i based upon black grill, and tail pipes. Still a good comparison, though.

You have to remember that the e53 has always had painted rear bumpers. Personally, I think the black rear bumpers look too much like the old ML's when they first came out--looks kind of cheap plus they can fade over time if not taken care of. Though on black colors the black bumpers aren't too bad.

I don't think there will be a single 'full frontal' change. Look at the fender to bumper parting line change.

I agree. Looks like to make the change you need to replace the front quarter panels. If you have that much money to waste, buy a 2011.

I like the rear tail lights and will probably do the swap eventually. :D Should just be plug and play? Anyone else plan to do it? Let see how much the rear lights going to cost.

2011 looks way better.

Less plastic, ftw. Black plastic looks like sh*t, on non-black X5's.

z2g 05-08-2010 02:32 AM

I think both look nice. However, I think the 2010 looks more rugged, more SUV-like. The 2011 looks sportier and more for the road....like the Cayenne.

+1

What's so special about the new tail lights? Can't really tell the difference.

You can also see the black plastic bumpers on old non-black X3s before they went body color. Especially if you see it in person, the height of it makes it look like they forgot to paint the entire lower half of the vehicle. This is one of the reasons I had to have the aero kit.

Not a surprise they went body color with the X5s now like the X3s have, but why E70s were initially black plastic when X3s were going body color already I dunno. If there's the '10 front with '11 rear that'd be great. Recall they supposedly needed more cooling for the turbo engines so they had to make the bigger vents in the front (also shifting the fogs) yet the 35i has fake vents. Does the 50i even need it or was it changed for the sake of change? :dunno:

i bet we'll see more rear "facelift" fixes. the new bumper is much improved

Appearance-wise, it's not a huge difference. However, I would love to trade-in my 2010 3.0i for the 2011 3.5i for the extra HP.

Agree. I would love the 4.4 turbo over my 4.8. I think the pre 2011 looks better from the front.
