There is definitely less concern with a new one. Things can still be wrong but its 100% with the dealer on a new car. Plus you get any new features of which BMW seems yo be introducing every other month. The down side is the first year depreciation. You just have to run the numbers.

Option #3 - ditch the car for the personal "feel good" option. I hear what your saying, when it comes time to sell, someone will look at the records and say - wow, lots of work done to this one. If they are giving you those options. take small hit and upgrade.

But in the OPs scenario, the dealer is selling the car is if there is NO "first year depreciation"!!

Buying used makes sense to avoid the steep depreciation hit...but it is a false economy with a hot car that is selling well. There are so few 2009, 2010, 2011 X5ds in the used market, that there is almost no benefit in buying used.

IMO
