how to change the outside mirror glass?

I've googled this and cant find an answer to my question. I've purchased a set of the Euro mirror glasses and want to change them, just dont want to tear anything up in making the swap. TIA

Assuming it's like every other BMW mirror housing......

Tilt the mirror fully down, so that the top edge has a gap. Slide your finger and try to wiggle it out. It requires persistence and some pressure but do not force or else you may rip the connector out, which would be bad because then you'd have to buy a new housing.

Here is the official BMW method. I had to do mine this morning and it worked. When you look at the back of the new mirror you can see that it is secured by pushing it down onto 4 clips - logically it comes off by prising it upwards (up to the sky, not outwards) off those 4 clips.

I've seen that write up but the clips on the E70 are different. They are in a circle and not just the 4 as pictured in that document

Sorry dude - for some reason I thought we were talking e53! I must have clicked on the e70 forum when I thought I was clicking on the e53 forum.

I have no idea how it works on the e70. Good luck though.

Still the procedure is the same - tilt fully sideways or down, grab and pull.

I would like buy the Euro mirror glass as well. I use to drive in France, just about every car had the outer portion with a convex mirror. I miss it. Where do you gets these and what was the cost?

I got my set on ebay, $150 shipped for the set was the deal I got

My e46 and e38 had a small rotating lock piece at the bottom of the mirror. Make sure you don't see a little tab underneath the mirror glass before you start pulling it off.

The X5 ones are particularly expensive just due to their size. The retail for the basic heated ones aren't too bad, I think around $150 each or so. But auto-dimming more than doubles the price. I got mine off eBay.de but they're not always available.

I'll be traveling to SA in a month where I should be able to get some European-spec parts.

I finally got brave enough to install my heated & autodim euro mirrors today. Used a teflon bicycle tire lever and a towel, adjusted the mirror all of the way up and in and pried up gently until it popped off. Pulled the top away, disconnected the cable for the heat & auto dim, reinstalled. Repeated on the other side. Should really help with the blind spots on this car! People here in the US really like to cruise beside you, in your blind spots and a lot of times their not easy to see. My German Spec 330d wagon had this type of mirror on it and I loved it! I pulled a twin axle trailer from Belgium to Italy and didnt even need to add trailer mirrors with them on the car. Dont understand why they dont come on the X class US spec vehicles in the first place....

I have these on my X3 and the 325i so whenever I drive a "normal" US car, I feel like I'm blind.

Could you post the part # for euro heated and auto dim mirrors?

Thanks!
