E70 LCI / retrofit rear interior light to a light with reading light
7 Attachment(s)
Dear Forum
My car was ordered without the "light package", option 563. I'll guess thats why the interior lights in the backseat is just lights when opening doors and no reading light with switch to manually switch on/off for reading purposes while driving. I am trying to figure out if it is possble to change to the other lamps but so far I have failed to come up with final answers. I do have some pictures and partnumbers though. Still I haven' been able to remove my lamp so I do not know how it looks in terms of connectors and cables. Attached are the part numbers I have identified. Pictures below. The back side picture is the right light, part no. 63316972972. Seems to be held in place with a clip. Lamp with switch (reading light) color black Left 63316972971 Right 63316972972 Lamp without switch (no reading light) color black 63316973624 Bulbs needed / unsure If I need both or just one. It says that Xenon is for cars with light package (option 563). Long life bulb 5W / 63217160797 Xenon 6W / 63217160908 Anyone who can shed some light (:-) on how to remove the lights and/or post pictures of installation/cables etc are highly welcome. /Knubblo |
I have a few tools called "trim removal tools" Here is one similar to my favorite:
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/body-11.htm The key is that they have a WIDE, FLAT blade, but it needs to be strong (not a 'putty knife') The wide surface distributes the force and prevents damage- a screwdriver will cut into the item or the liner, but a flat blade will not. Looking at the clip, it will probably require quite a bit of force. If it breaks, you can always buy a new clip (and you are replacing the light anyway...) :) |
OK. Thanks for the tip.
Still, I wonder if I can change the lights since it may be different connectors? If someone have changed the bulb in a rear interior light (light with reading light), please post (if available) a picture of the connector and how many wires it has. Each light will set me back approx $100, with bulbs and tools some $250 in total. Seems kind of unnecessary if they cannot be connected. Kind regards Knubblo |
Hi,
I know is an old entry but did you manage to change the reading lights for ones with on/off switch? |
Nope, it can NOT be retrofitted
The single light module has a 2 pin contact The module with reading light has a 6 pin contact |
