I think I'm sold !! Curse you BMW :)

So after looking at every picture known to man and even participating in the X-Drive event last week I was not yet sold on the new F15 X5. Truly love my existing 2011 E70 and no intentions of even considering the purchase of a 2014 model until seeing this picture today. I must say that with the right exterior package, wheels, and of course the color, this new design truly shines.

To me there is not that much of change over all. About like it use to be
with american manufacturers. Different taillights, headlights, grill. Overall its
the same shell. Even interior. its got that thing sticking up on the dash but
again overall not that much different from the 2013.

If for some reason had to get a new one, would not hesitate. I'm
just not seeing a major change.

Do wish they knew now to make the diesel reliable. use to be such good engines.

So-so quality pic...reminds me of the X3 sport version a few years ago.
Hope you go look at/drive one, in person vs swooning over a pic. ;)

I just got back from the dealer and I do have to say the F15 does look much different in person than it does in the pictures. I have to say I think it looks better in person. The front end is a bit awkward which takes some getting used to but i think the back looks better.

The Interior is nicer in my eyes. It is not completely different, but enough for me to notice the differences very quickly. I have to say, looking at it online, I was luke warm, now that I do like it.

The real test is going to be how it feels and drives.

blktoptrvl 10-26-2013 03:49 PM

Sorry, this one is not for me... Talk about a pig with lipstick... I got to the dealer today and all I can say is that all the style has been extracted and you are left with just a pointie nosed brick.

If I ever buy another X5 looks like 2013 will be the max year for me.

I am totally opposite. I was sold from all the pics i have seen, and even went ahead to sell my 08 X a month ago. Last week went to the dealer to looked at in person, did not care much for it. Have to get a different vehicle now.

TerminatorX5 10-26-2013 05:24 PM

Can they make an E53 body with all the F15 goodies? yeah... like Chevy BelAir - wishful thinking!!!! it stays in the history books and is not coming back...

Not a fan of the funky front corner lenses http://midpacsolutions.com/emoticons/2c.gif

:iagree: This pic makes it look pretty good. I think my dealer has one also, will be there tomorrow and see if thats the case.

rh71 10-27-2013 07:51 PM

Wow, can't believe 15-yr later I can say, "I think I willl miss Chris Bangle". Maybe Adrian Von Hoydonk, just don't get SUV design being an European. Culture is big influence in ID design.

blktoptrvl 10-31-2013 02:32 PM

I think I figured out what is wrong with it... The overall profile is much more like the X3 - which I always thought looked like a shoe.

I think the back of the new design looks a little bit like my Honda Odyssey:

PropellerHead 11-01-2013 07:54 PM

Reminds me of the E53. Which I have. And which I like. Never did cotton to the E70 in anything but M or M sport trim.

bren3085 11-12-2013 11:22 PM

Personally I dont think there is enough appeal in the design..
For me to love a car you need to look at it from more than just one angle and be able to say "I really like the look of this car" and put a smile on your face!

I remember when I had an e39 i'd walk up to it and think it was such a timeless design whether you talk up to it from the front, rear , or side..

If you have to hunt around the car and look for your hero view then to me it really isn't so pretty.. to me I can hardly find a view of the exterior that i "love"

Interior on the other hand is completely different. I love it!

shawndoh 11-12-2013 11:29 PM

There has definitely been some back and forth between BMW and Honda over the years.

ArmyX5 12-03-2013 02:23 AM

Definitely going the opposite direction with this design. I was looking in adding a sister to my 05, but I may have to get her a cousin, X6 :dunno:

Alan Smithee 12-05-2013 04:58 PM

I've seen a few now at the dealer and LA Auto Show. To me, the F15 looks like an E70 that went through the Toyota design studio for a minute before being released.

Def looks more "pedestrian" compared to E70.

ADGrant 12-10-2013 08:42 AM

It's not that it looks like Toyota that bother me (I don't think it does). The problem is that it steers like one.

TLS 12-16-2013 07:34 PM

So I went in and looked at both the E70 and F15 together and I just cannot get adjusted to the horrible profile view of the F15 and I absolutely hate the look of the nav / I drive screen sticking out of the dash. It just looks cheap and BMW should have made it retractable like Audi does. While talking numbers the sales manager could only offer a few thousand off of sticker on a 14 that was priced in the high sixties. So I asked him about a leftover 2013 I noticed on the lot in Alpine white with black interior. He worked up a discount of just over 8 grand and I pulled the trigger on a new 2013. So hopefully the F15 will get some refinements over the next few years to spark my attention again. Otherwise, I will be more than content with my new E70.

Kloogy 12-18-2013 03:29 AM

I could not warm up to the new design. I too ended up buying a 2013. My warranty was up and I really gave the F15 a shot. It looks like a boring SUV.

Galion 12-18-2013 06:56 PM

Ohh I hate it too, it makes my e70 look so outdated, what a horrible SUV!
Whenever a guy on his pedestrian F15 MSport on 20"s pulls up next to my e70 at a stoplight, I will feel pity of him....

Investor 12-18-2013 07:39 PM

Sure are alot of people who don't like new design. Proof-I have had a new one on order for a month with confirmed production but no date yet, now supposed to be first week of Jan. Sure wish this design wasn't so disliked so I could get my car sooner.

I agree, there's too many angles where this latest design looks very awkward, un-proportioned, etc. The e53 had the best proportions and lines, the e70 is second with some stronger lines in the front, but too large in the back. This one has a bad nose, big 'full diaper' tail, and it's lost the strong muscular lines. The interior is a different story; it's become more refined.

I have to disagree. The nav screen looks like an afterthought and why did BMW have to get rid of the stealth glovebox?? Anyone who has ever been in my E70 has always been impressed with the glove box design. It's stuff like that that makes the biggest impressions. Especially since it has a decent amount of space and "flows well" with the dashboard

Also, the new idrive touch controller is a PITA to use and operate. Even the BMW advisor couldn't properly demo it for me without getting frustrated :dunno:

I'll be more than content with my E70. I am really liking the OEM LED angel eyes. They look very sharp on all of the BMW vehicles compared to the first generation versions.

ukrcan 12-20-2013 01:56 PM

a lot of discussion about the looks… but hows the drive comparing to e70?
