Two more problems fixed

08 X5 4.8 with about 130700.

Coolant expansion tank sprung a leak, about a 1 inch crack. Less than $100 and about 10 mins to replace.

Next, this has been pissing me off for about six weeks. Car was making noise ,sounded like it had asthma. Drove fine but just loud from idle to redline. I thought it was the airpump, took it apart cleaned it seemed fine, noise still existed, next thought it might be a pulley, but when I did the waterpump about a month ago each pulley turned ok, no noise. I checked the crankcase vent pipe that has the two diaphragms one on the pipe on the passenger side and one on the drivers valve cover. They looked good the rubber wasn't cracked. This is what typically fails. I didn't bother with it until the coolant tank cracked. I figured when I was at the parts counter I would get the diaphragms ~45 for both.

This did the trick. I guess that even though the rubber parts looked good, the spring was compressed and affected the amount of air going through the diaphragm. FYI in case your engine starts making odd noises.
