I haven't ever dyed my plastic either, I tend to "maintain" it. Usually clean off oxidation and any dirt with an APC prior, then I dress it with a water based vinyl/plastic dressing, currently I use Adam's Super VRT, which gives a nice natural look and color to the plastic, really brings it back.

I also noticed after the first time I cleaned/dressed it, each subsequent application to the trim has been a longer interval until needing to do it again. You'll find that once it's been maintained the dressing will last longer on the plastic, and obviously a little goes a long way. If you find it runs at all, its being applied too thick and you can knock out the excess when its dry with a dry MF towel............
