Im pretty sure they will recommend a non-metallic tint because of the potential to interfere with GPS and internal antennas. Better off talking to the pros than listening to a forum though.

I recommend tint-a-car in north melbourne. The guy (Peter) is very approachable and knowledgeable. I've had one car done there and was very happy.

He'll put a light meter through your current window and advise you on your darkest option. This is important as there may already be a small amount of factory tint impregnated in the glass. If you go darkest legal over a factory tint, it can make a 35% tint up to a 30% tint, making it illegal.

Vic Police have done blitz's on tint in the past - they did a big one on St Kilda rd a couple of years ago - but your real issue will be if you ever want to sell the car and get a RWC - the RWC tester is required to put a light meter on your windows and record. Too dark and you'll get failed, have to pull the tint off etc....nightmare.
