2011 X5 Diesel Check Engine Light
32000 miles on vehicle .....3 months out of warranty....
Saturday got the emissions light (Amber engine), and started doing some research.
Most trips in this vehicle are of very short duration.....less than 5 miles.....every great now and then, I might drive 2 hours at interstate speed, but infrequently, and the day this happened, I had 4 drives within 3 hours that lasted no more than 5 minutes each, which I am hoping is the "duration" part of this issue.
2 years ago , this vehicle was part of BMW emissions recall , and have not had any problems to speak of since then.
I checked the fault code Sunday, P2458; diesel particulate filter regeneration duration. I cleared the fault drove it reasonably hard for about 30 miles, and the light did not reappear.
Is this an issue of me not driving the vehicle enough, or hard enough, or is there something else I need to be aware of? I really hate to think of going to the dealer with this issue $$$$$$$$$$......Or do I need to go to the dealer...? Really hate to go on a withch hunt, but do not want to damage the expensive emissions equipment if this is something else......
Anyone with any experience with this?
