If I'm interpreting what you wrote correctly...you started with 4 green LED illuminated...you've driven aprrox 17K miles and the SI display now has the yellow LED illuminated (which means you should have an OIL SERV or INSPECTION light illuminated, too).
Since SIA III uses fuel consumption as the factor as to how the lights LEDs go out. Each of the 5 green LEDs represent 20% of whatever the fuel consumption integer is for your engine/model. If you look at or calculate your average MPG & fuel consumption while watching the mileage of your SI display...your 4.4 V8 probably has a SI interval between 14K-18K miles....so it appears to be pretty close to whatever the setting for the interval should be.
If you've UNLOCKED your OBC...you can run TEST 3 to see what your mileage (in kilometers) was sinc the last SI reset. Or if you rn through the instrument cluster SI display reset procedure but stop before resetting the display...it should jump to the end display and you can see the amount of fuel left to consume (in liters) before the SI display will illuminate for a service.
Since you say that the yellow LED is illuminated...you should see a negative number (example SIA END -XXXX "L")...btw the last digit may look like this "1"...it is many times incorrrectly thought of as a one "1" but it actually a small case "L" and stands for "liters".
You can see some of the info that is revealed when youenter the instrument cluster SI display reset in this pic below from a Blubee thread. The image at the top shows that the yellow & red LEDs are illuminated...thus service is overdue....and the amount of consumed fuel is showing negative numbers (
-1136 liters) because of this. But after resetting the display to all green LEDs..the amount of fuel to consume until the next reset changes to a positive number (
2575 liters)...again each green LED will represent 20% of the calculated amount of fuel for the interval for her 6 cylinder 530i:
