Your engine wouldn't know the difference with the tiny bit of the old oil left over. I've been using various BMW branded Castrol, Total, and Mobil1 over the years and the X is about to hit 100K without any issues. Heck, I even mixed in a few combo at times.
FYI...3.5K oil changes are way overkill. Here are some pictures of my engine with annual oil changes (varies from 6K to 12K annual miles) =>
