Nope. The boot nearest the wheel is what I'm talking about and I'm talking about a factory cv boot. You do have to pop the axle out of the cv joint, but you don't have to touch the axle nut. The circlip that hold it in place will also let it come apart once you undo the control arm to get the range of motion you need. So, you absolutely don't need to take the axle out of the hub.
