I have a 2006 x5 3.0 that is making a clunking noise everytime I drive over uneven surfaces or the car isn't riding on sound surface. A local mechanic said bushings and tie rods, but doubt its the tie rods. Not sure which bushing it could be, whether its the control arm bushing or the tension strut bushing. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated not to mention if someone knows of a good mechanic to address this issue as the noise is getting annoying. No noise when the brakes applied or steering jutters.
