Not sure if it's the same design, off hand.. but our 2008 3.0si developed some coolant splashes on the alternator and whatnot. Tracked it down to a weeping fitting near the expansion tank, right at the plastic Y-fitting. I went to grab hold of it and the Y-fitting to inspect and it more/less disintegrated in my hand. Thanks BMW, we were already running late that day.

To fix it, I just ran down to O'Reilly's Auto Parts and picked up a barbed brass T-fitting and some fuel pressure clamps, cut the old y-fitting out and swapped in the brass one, topped off with some Zerex G-05, and cleaned my engine. At least THAT part won't be causing any further leaks.

I'm just worried about the rest of the plastic system now. Having owned 8 BMW's to date.. one thing we have to all keep in mind, unlike the older ones, these newer BMW's are dealer service revenue generators. These parts are designed to fail, otherwise, ABS plastic would not be used to carry coolant under pressure (for example). As a result, it will always be a constant fight keeping these cars on the road. Unless you don't mind throwing a ton of cash at the dealer, being creative and learning to twist a wrench will yield you long-term gains. </soapbox>
