I have leather seats in my X3 and it started doing the same thing on the driver's side. I assumed it was from normal wear and tear. I took it to the local dealer here in Germany and they replaced it with no problems. Needless to say, I was disappointed that with all the extra costs of leather seats, they should be of a higher quality and durability.
