Definitely more than just injectors!
I have a 2011 X5 with the N63 and less than 50K that was drinking oil, blowing smoke under mid to hard acceleration, misfiring into limp mode, and all off the classic issues that I have read about this motor, after the fact.
My dealer first tried the easy stuff like mass air sensor, and then crankcase pipe, but it still bellowed smoke as soon as I left the dealership. Finally they replaced all injectors, and replaced the valve stems, which seem to be an issue, and it was much better. I was still getting smoke with the first good bit of throttle after it had sit for a while, and I actually had the engine malfunction message and limp mode come up once, so now I see this "non recall" recall.
I entend to have them perform replacement of every item on the list that they haven't already, and will not be satisfied until they offer a factory backed warranty on this engine for the life of ownership, as I feel that they will never eliminate some of the issues, such as excessive oil blow-by, and even after the fixes they will probably come back at some point.
They say they just sent a bill to BMW for $7K for the last fix, and they are only offering from what I hear, $2500 extra towards the purchase of a new BMW? Thats just the cost of an option on a new car!
