That's the same problem I had with mine. You know when it's gonna happen - you get a feel for it. The engine revs a bit then "whack"!
I asked a local bmw shop to bump the transmission control software up to the latest version maybe 25,000 miles ago - it really helped the problem for me. It hardly ever happens anymore.....
I probably need to check the fluid in mine though - I've never done that and I've had it since 73k - it's got 111k on it now.
