I have 2001 X5 BMW 4.4 with 160k miles

Today I replaced the chain tensioner, the fan clutch as well as the fan. Upon starting the car and turning it off, I noticed that the air pump stayed on. I discoed the black battery cable to make it shut off. However once I put the cable back on to the battery the pump started back up with the car off. Any suggestions?
