Don't mention yet that you need VSS repair job, have them do the initial diagnostic and troubleshooting ( if you have to pay one hour labor to compensate the techs time - do it).
Then gather facts based on the initial findings, review the parts list and labor associated with it. If you don't feel good about it walk away, get a second opinion (don't show the 1st finding, let them do the troubleshooting and compare the findings)
